Top Gun is as nostalgic & iconic as G.I.Joe. Like Joe 4 years ago, Top Gun will celebrate its 25th anniversary 1 year from now (EDIT: THIS YEAR MAY '11).
1. So what are your thoughts & memories? Like the homages seen in the new HUB toon & POC toys; will fellow 80s icon G.I.Joe give homage to Top Gun's 25th in the new toon just like the classic toon "Operation Dragonfire" (1989)? See pic of Scoop giving Goose / Top Gun a homage, below. 2. What should a 25th Anniversary "Collector's Gift Box" contain? Karaoke feature? Dog tags? Exclusive action figure like DC Comic's Direct-to-DVD toon movies @ Best Buy? 3. Any ideas for future product? Maybe finally see a Top Gun 25th anniversary toy line similiar to G.I. Joe's 25th anniversary line? How's about a big F-14 toy jet for Maverick re-painted later as Ace's own Skystriker XP-14 jet for G.I. Joe's coming 30th Anniversary? (EDIT: SKYSTRIKER!!! IS RETURNING FOR THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY... http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/...-images-10152/ Last edited by Tuskegee Joe; 03-15-2011 at 02:13 AM.. |

uhm... no thanks... Really don't like that movie. Don't think it's worth an anniversary.

No..there will be no anniversary figures made by the Corps or rebirth of the Tomcat for GI JOE...and please please please no POC Tom Cruise "Maverick" wild card figure added to the POC line like Matt Trakker oddball appearance...
It was a cool movie at the time, killer soundtrack and all but a reboot of it now with a plane no where near as cool as the tomcat would just be no better then Iron Eagle and more mud in the face with current lackluster reboots... |

yeah... agreed.
I would buy a toyline if it were 25th / ME compatible though.. Could totally use a few carrier pilots for my Flagg, and a few new joe jets.

I can't imagine them doing anything. I loved the movie and am happy to leave it as is. Don't need any remastering or anything like that.

I guarantee if Hasbro and Paramount cross-licensed an anniversary jet with Maverick figure it would be the biggest selling G.I. Joe item since the 80's.

It deserves one. That's how you do a jet movie. The only thing to come close is Les Chevaliers du Ciel, and Speed and Angels(though this one is a documentary).

The closet naval like top gunish movie was that semi-ok Stealth movie...and if that is the best they can come up with since Top Gun then...yeah leave it alone! |

But all current naval aircraft are boring compared to the Tomcat...it was a beast of a jet...how could they even come close to 1uping the original due to lack of cool looking naval jets? Thats what made it so huge for me, I wanted to be a tomcat pilot the day I walked out of the theatre after seeing this show...

Anyone from TRU, Walmart, or Target (kenny22) can you ask around to see how your executives can wheel + deal with Hasbro to make it happen? Imagine, how great of a sell that would be = all that free publicity coinciding with all the media generated by Top Gun's 25th Anniversary / Blu-Ray release...
