this came in from TNI.com
With Iron Man 2 Just under 2 weeks from being released, it appears that the Armored Avenger's co-star the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is already under consideration for a movie spin-off. President of Production for Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, discussed the chances of Johansson's character getting her own solo film in the near future. "Yes absolutely, it's definitely a possibility," answered Feige. Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau also chimed in by saying, "Hell yes, I would love to see that." Seriously guys...unclench...it's only "under consideration." Its not like they start filming next week. No doubt they're going to wait to see how Iron Man 2 does and how the character is received.
Catwoman and Elektra are poor comparisons, as neither movie had much (any) resemblance whatsoever to their comic-book counterparts. While the final verdict will have to wait for two more weeks, Black Widow already looks considerably closer to her "true" self. Beyond all that, Black Widow is a character that could probably fit pretty easily into the new "smaller movie" program Marvel Studios has talked about starting up, because she could have a film that doesn't require nearly as much big FX work as say, Iron Man or Thor or Avengers and plays more like a straight espionage/action thriller. |

There has hardly been a comic movie with a second character that hasn't been "considered" for a spin-off.
Comic Property is hot right now - even if companies are trying the shotgun approach. I wonder what the chances are that Scarlett would tie herself to a comic book franchise. |

This could be interesting. My wife swears I want to see IM2 because of ScarJo (media's moniker, not mine); she doesn't really do it for me, although that suit looks good on her.
I'm not familiar with many comic book heros; before IM came out, I'd heard of Iron Man, but I had never read an IM comic. I've never read a Batman comic, and it had been years since I've read a Transformers comic. But I love the movies (overall). I like action/adventure movies. So if they make a Black Widow movie, I'll probably watch it, even if I wait for it to hit HBO. The only comic book movie I really haven't liked was Watchmen. I thought it was dumb. But that's my opinion, and I know that there are others who would disagree.....

Remember folks, they're only talking about it right now...it's not like they're going full-steam ahead. But I'd also note that the producers and director have no doubt seen Iron Man 2 already and know how good (in their opinion) she is. If they're happy with her performance then I'd say the chances of a spinoff go up considerably. Last edited by Jmacq1; 04-26-2010 at 10:19 AM.. |

Black Widow would be perfect for a spin-off exactly.
Great back story. Good lead that would draw men and women. Could be done for low budget, not requiring much in the way of CGI.

Scarlett's already tied to a comic-book franchise. Supposedly her deal for Iron Man 2 was a multi-picture one. She'll likely pop up in The Avengers at the very least, even if she doesn't get her own spinoff film (though I think that's probably likely).
