I am looking into these 3D Tvs coming out & I have some concerns. What it looks like to me is that in order to use a 3D TV, I have to buy special (expensive) glasses, not to mention a proprietary Blu Ray player. I understand that using glasses is part of the technology, but I was under the impression that I could use the cheapy handout glasses from the theater.
Can anyone here clarify what the initial purchase must be in order to have 3D TV? |

By the time I'm my grandparents age, I'll have to buy accessories just to drop dead.

I really don't know for sure, because I have no intention of buying a 3DTV anytime soon, but my understanding is that yes, you have to buy the expensive glasses for it to work properly. The technology works differently than the movie theater versions.
Though I've also heard that most HDTVs made in the last couple of years are technically 3D capable (if they're 1080p), but that it would/will require some kind of adapter (kind of like the "HD Ready" TVs that were coming out a few years back). Don't know if they're commercially available yet. |

I don't think that 3D TV would be worth it. I mean, it's fun at the theater sometimes, but I don't need it for EVERY movie, show, etc.

I'm not interested in 3DTV, unless they can develop the technology to view it without the need of eyewear. Only then I might give it a chance otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with with my LCD.

Yes you need the DVD player and the glasses. The glasses are not the same as the ones from theatres. They use microshutters that open and close rapidly and are controlled by the system. I have tried this system a little while ago and it is very cool. There is not a lot of media for it yet though so I think it is a bit early to get into it.

That's pretty much my thoughts exactly...the last thing I need to see is that dude from Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns jumping into my living room

Like mentioned above, the glasses and dvd are necessary. Cable companies are just now putting out 3dtv, we had golf here in 3d last week. I would recommend holding off for another 12 months at least,to give the tech time to grow and be developed. I personally don't plan to address 3dtv tech for another 24 months.

I really don't think that 3DTV will become popular until they're able to lose the glasses. Until then, the stigma 3D still has as a gimmick will continue and will be little more than a tacked on "extra" that only gamers and video enthusiests will buy into.
