Man, this list is REALLY biased. It was clearly put together by someone who is a hair older than me because there is a VERY clear gap in the content. You have quite a few oldies, a LOT of 80s stuff, and a lot of Adult Swim/Comedy Central content, but many of the quality late 90s cartoons aren't there.
Stuff like ReBoot and Roughnecks are noticably missing from that list, not to mention the fact they fail to specify WHICH Tranformers series they're talking about (y'know, since TF has had another half dozen series made since 1986). The absence of Beast Wars in particular is insulting.

The lack of Starblazers is criminal. And Schoolhouse Rock is lower than Robot Chicken? Very few girls' cartoons. I call bullshit.

As much as I love Ayanami and Evangelion... no way does this show deserves top ten status... or even to be higher ranked than Robotech of Gundam IMO. Evangelion is one of those series that kind of sucks crap... but it sucks in such an abstract way that people always assume that instead of actually sucking, they simply assume they do not or cannot understand its greatness. People... this show just sucks. Really... it does. LOL.
Now, Evangelion took the best of both worlds, and basically deconstructed the hell out of it, something that hadn't really been done before (except in the "so legendaey you must see it" Gunbuster, which was Gainax's first attempt before Eva). It showed the pilots of these robots as the most tragic of figures (but with an infinately more satisfying ending). Eva hit the industry like a friggin' meteor, and all of a sudden you have a flood of anime trying to treat something inherantly juvinille in a very grown up way (Raxaphon being one of the better attempts). Now, fast-forward another decade and after the creators of Eva have fully recovered from the metal breakdowns they all suffered working on that series, they went an made a little series called Guren Lagan, a series about giant robots that are literally powered by awesome! Seriously, if you're a pilot the only limit to your power is how crazy and awesome you are. We have a mush of a kid like Shinji, but where Shinji didn't have a positive role-model within a thousand mile radius (unless you count Kaoru), Simone has Kamina, a guy who can only be described as the living embodiment of awesome. Where Evas supposedly had unlimited power and were throwing battleships, the Guran Lagaan has the power to hurl entire galaxies like shuriken. Yeah, it's that kind of series. Gainax literally took the most succesful deconstruction of the giant robot anime ever, and deconstructed it. So yeah. Top 10? Hard to say, but Eva definately should definately go in the top 20. |

If we were talking strictly anime; then Evangelion would be top 5 for sure just for the impact it had on anime in general alone. But I think that list is geared more towards North American audiences, and IMO such would be the case that Robotech had a much greater impact here than Eva did. |
