Considering that Jonathan Nolan has NO DIRECTING experince what-so-ever....... I am not sure how this could be anything but a train wreck. You dont give someone one of the hardest Superheroes to interpret too a Newbie!

With his brother's help and his love of comics I'd say give Jonathan a chance. Or would you rather go with McG, Bay, Summers or Singer.... they all have films under their belt. That is all your looking for when it comes to qualification right? |

Look at it this way - if it starts looking crap,he can just bring in big brother to sort it!

well hold on a minute, you know Chris will be working with him on this and he has worked with Chris on other movies. And didn't he direct some of the dvd extras? George Lucas started with American Graffiti as his first film and as far as direction that was by far his best.
With his brother's help and his love of comics I'd say give Jonathan a chance. Or would you rather go with McG, Bay, Summers or Singer.... they all have films under their belt. That is all your looking for when it comes to qualification right? Nope, I am not saying or implying that McG, Bay or Summers directs Superman. As a matter of fact only YOU brought up their names. There are by the way over 13,000 DGA members. Not all are qualified but a bunch are able too tackle Supes. Certainly with thought there are hundreds of people who could direct over Jonathan Nolan. But to put it in perspective. Directing a DVD feature for your brother (or more accurately) Jonathan Nolan is like saying that Emeril Lagasse brother made and gave away a free salad at Emerils restaurant. That alone does not make him a chef! Directing is a skill and a talent that people show in their work. What has Jonathan shown that makes him worthy of SUPERMAN? Does he deserve a chance to Direct, why not? But not one of the most recognizable franchises in the world. That's just plain STUPID on the Studios part........IMO. The qualifications I would be looking for is simple: Visionary, confidence, experience and self-assured. If a Director needs big brother (no pun intended) looking over his shoulder making sure he gets it right well then... "Houston we have a problem" And not to get all matter of fact but Lucas first film was THX 1138. Two years before American Graffiti. Last edited by Rocky; 02-26-2010 at 05:07 PM.. |

District 9 was directed by a first timer.
But I agree, with something as big as Superman, it needs a name and someone that's been there before.

I hope to god that Superman doesn't simply become Batman Begins in a different costume.

your right THX 1138 was his first film and a remake of what he did in film school.
Regardless you have to start somewhere. As for the directors I named they are all directors who have had their shots at franchise movies. I say give somebody new a shot. Chris Nolan isn't going to let his brother make him look bad if he is the one WB/DC is having godfather the Superhero films. He has been on the set with his brother enough to know his way around. Plus his writing skills show that he has a vision. Chris wouldn't throw him to the wolves. You know he would help him because his rep is on the line if he is the one to select his brother. Also you know that a first time director will be given a lot of help. Look at it like this, when Kevin Smith was being asked to direct Green Hornet he said he didn't know anything about filming movies that big. The studio said don't worry they will put him with the best cinematographer they could find. Why wouldn't WB do the same? |
