I thought this was interesting and might ruffle some feathers. I'm not a comic book reader (well, occassionally I will pick up one to read) and I have never read a single Sgt. Rock comic. So, either way, I'm interested, but I'm not a big fan of Joel Silver. So, read the article and decide for yourself......could it work?

I'd rather they not adapt Sgt. Rock to film. Joel Silver's got an overwhelmingly good overall track record as a producer, but his film adaptations of comics/other media have been pretty bad (i.e., Ri¢hie Ri¢h, Dungeons & Dragons, V for Vendetta).

V for Vendetta was considered a bad movie? By who? |

By me. It's a good "stand-alone" film, but as a movie adaptation of the comics, it misses the mark entirely by substituting democracy for anarchy as the polar political and thematic opposite of tyranny.

V was bad.
The reason they'd have to futurize Rock is because Rock is basically generic. Easy Company is just a group of soldiers, with nicknames, that get into some crazy stuff during WW2. They'd need something to set it apart from other WW2 movies. Take Saving Private Ryan, call Hanks character Rock and give the other guys nicknames and you have a Sgt. Rock movie. So yeah, they'd need something to make it different. So I'd rather they didn't do it.

The should do the Haunted Tank instead.
Jeb Stuart for the win! We haven't had a good tank movie since James Garner in Tank

Sgt. Rock was an example of another era, and should represent where he came from. He was developed in the late 50's. He was a John Wayne-esque sterotype of the grizzled all American soldier. At the same time he was really a super hero of the original Batman mold. He had no powers other than great physical fitness, a sharp mind, and an undying dertermination to battle his enemies (Nazis). Through the course of his run he actually had many of his unit killed in action. Some of his regulars, who were developed charecters died, as well as faceless G.I. 's, and the saddest losses were the deaths of some of his replacemrnt soldiers, that were refered to as the kindegarten kids, who were 18, and raw recruits. He was wounded many times. It could be done as a Private Ryan like realistic WWII film. It could have been a Sands of Iwo Jima style movie, with better effects and more realistic action. It could have been a live action WWII comic. But it will be a dimly lit space marine action movie. I was horrified origonally but I give up. Hollywood does what it wants you to watch.

They most likely had a script already, named Captin' Spaceguy U.S.M.C., So they decided to call it Sgt. Rock instead. All they had to do was cross out Spaceguy, and put Sgt. Rock in with a red pen.
