OH HELL YES!!!
Hearing the music, I got chills. My all time favorite cartoon. Even for being all oriental actors, I knew right away it was Derek Wildstar and Avatar is nailed perfectly.

My heart fluttered upon seeing Captain Okita/Avatar: THAT is how you interpret an animated property!!!
Wanting to see Desler/Desslok is the very definition of I-can't-wait!!!

The CGI sequences look like BSG (reimagined). Don't know if they are taking a page, or it's just me making the connection, but with the way Stargate:U looks like as well, Sci-fi in general seems to be heading in tha direction - away from the bright clean hulls that typified Star Trek and Star Wars ships.

Can't wait. I'm pleased that the movie stars Takuya Kimura of SMAP.

Wow, it looks so cheap. Like cable tv movie budget. Even the Yamato cgi stands out badly. They didn't even try to re-imagine the Yamato? Enterprise and Galactica were re-designed. When the japanese do a live action genre show, it has a tendency to look like a Power Ranger show. With its bright colours and off-beat melo-drama.
Case-in-point. White uniforms? Accurate maybe, but even the x-men didn't go that route with yellow spandex. The point I'm trying to make is that a re-make should respect the material but try to go further and beyond. Not just copy and paste. Along same lines, where's blond in jump suit, the comedy relief robot, and potato head doc? See what I mean? |

Besides it's not a remake (BSG) or a reimagining (RoC), it's an adaption from one form of media (cartoon) and another (live action). So there's no reason to make things different if they don't have to.
The white uniforms translate to the big screen very well, as we can see. The multi-colorful and different uniforms of the X-Men didn't translate as well, and would have been expensive and a bitch to make, so they didn't make it to the big screen.
