Here are some of the movies I watched the past few months, and my ratings (on a scale from 1-10).

Also, it's getting harder and harder to find good films during this pandemic.

I know "Fatale" (2020) is being called a moronic "Fatal Attraction" rip-off, though to be perfectly fair, it rips off a bunch of other movies as well. I counted at least 12, in fact. Almost all of which were much better. Even most of the bad ones (such as "Chloe") were better. (BTW, how desperate does a screenwriter have to be to borrow plot elements from "Swimfan"?)
Okay, so a successful sports agent has a drunken one-night stand with a hateful stereotype played by Hilary Swank. But the seemingly innocuous affair comes back to haunt him and his wife (also a negative stereotype) in ways that will shock/surprise you ... assuming you were born in a cave and never had any contact with the outside world. (Wait, then how are you seeing this movie? Or even reading this?) While there's the obvious subtext of white police targeting black people, the film is hardly a serious exploration of the issue. In fact, it's hardly a film at all, actually. Basically just a dreary parade of tired tropes, really. Oh, and did I mention the women are stereotypes? PS One time, I discovered my grandmother had never heard of duct tape. How is that possible?

"The Strangers: Prey at Night"
I vividly recall being super excited (in 2008) to see the original "The Strangers" after watching the preview several times in theatres. Yet, curiously, I have almost zero memory of the actual movie itself. If it was anything like its sequel, now I know why. Christina Hendricks (Joan from "Mad Men") sets out, along with her dull husband and bland children, to visit relatives in Ohio. But, as often happens on family vacations, they end up being chased around a trailer park by masked psychopaths. Typical slasher stuff follows: copious amounts of gore, seemingly indestructible villains, some highly questionable decision-making by the main characters, plus plotholes so huge they could swallow cement trucks (or, in this particular case, a minivan and two pickups). The worst (or perhaps best) part is when one psychopath suffers an injury that would not only be excruciatingly painful, but clearly fatal ... and literally shrugs it off.
