Black Panther
This film has fantastic visuals, music, and costumes... certainly worthy of winning the Academy Award in those categories. Best Picture, on the other hand... I don't think so. There are waaaaay better movies, just in the MCU alone, that didn't get nominated for Best Picture. This nomination stank of politics. Chadwick Boseman is a fine Black Panther, but I think Michael B Jordan would have been better, in the role... not least of which because he's still alive and Black Panther 2 would have been a better film as a result. The fight sequences are fine, although once the Black Panther costumes come on, they don't look quite as good. The chase scene in South Korea is a particular high point. Shuri is a low point in the film. Her dialogue is cringe, at best. Granted, in this film she's still a child, so her attitude isn't a huge surprise. It's a shame, because I like the actress, Letitia Wright. The other actors are quite good. Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong'o are both great. Angela Bassett is fantastic. Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis have a fun Gollum/Bilbo reunion scene. I really liked Winston Duke's portrayal of M'Baku.

i didnt like black panther either. i get what they were doing with it, but yeah it's definitely not award winning. he's like doctor strange. a second tier character that characters team up with; which is why i preferred him in civil war or the avengers team up movies. his role in the avengers assembled cartoon is boring, i only have that season because i have to have the whole series.
like the eternals. the way over spoken thing about it is "everyone can be a superhero" - which is a great message. but their way about executing that idea is not good. black panther wasnt so head thumping about it, but it also wasnt that great of a movie. if anything, having sat through the black panther movie (which feels like there was 2 before he died) it told me i can skip movies with heroes im not normally interested in. so, i skipped shuri's black panther (i dislike her character and hte actress), eternals (because i dont care about the eternals), doctor strange (becuase i fucking hate eggs benedict cabbagepatch and doctor strange is fucking boring). actually i pretty much noped out of everything post endgame except guardians of the galaxy, thor love and thunder (which was not bad, but not good. i dont know what hte ufck waititi was doing. well. i do. "who" is the answer. i can believe that would take away some creative energy and be a distraction ), and deadpool/wolverine (but deadpool 2 was better). i havent seen the spiderman movies because i am waiting for them to hit streaming. i've only watched the first two of hollands. i enjoyed them though. |

That movie really feels like 2002 to me. It seems like everything in it is Constructicon green and purple.

I liked the story for TWINE but there were too many quips and Denise Richards was bad casting. I do think RM & TD's films are the easiest to re-watch but it's been (possibly) a decade since I've watched the "official" Connery 007s. DC sucked the life out of the franchise.
On a related note, there's an Italian Bond knockoff from 1967 called OK Connery/Operation Kid Brother/Operation Double 007 that features Sean Connery's brother Neil playing the brother of a famous British spy. The rest of the cast includes Bernard Lee and Lois Maxwell essentially reprising their roles as M and Moneypenny, the girl from FRWL, the badguy from Thunderball and one of the lower villains from Dr No. It's really bad, but the cast makes it interesting and it was a great MST3k episode. The John Carter movie was going to be called "A Princess of Mars" but they thought it'd turn off guys going to see it and "John Carter of Mars" was considered, but historically, movies with Mars in the title doing badly at the box office, so it got changed to just 'John Carter'.

New life (2023) on Hulu. Intriguing start, but disappointing end after the plot reveal.

Conspiracy Theory (1997)
I've often thought that this idea could've made a funny series, with a main character fumbling/proving/disproving various conspiracies. I've been on a Patrick Stewart kick and - SPOILER - today he's announced as part of the next Avengers movie. He looked frail in Picard, so I'm hopeful he'll do well and not be a two-minute cameo again. Some characters are more interesting in their isolated stories. Batman, Hulk, and Moon Knight being others. Quote:

There were two movies about Mars that didn't do well, either, as I remember. Red Planet being one of them.

Watchers II (1990)
Tracy Scoggins and Marc Singer were '90s cable royalty, I'd guess, but this is much more entertaining than the original film with Corey Haim. Definite Dean Koontz vibes remain. Funny to read that the dog didn't like TS and they had to put Alpo on her skin to get the dog to lick her face.

Wicked - Good movie, but not sure it lived up to the hype and Ariana Grande could not act her way out of a wet paperbag!
