Connery's accent never really bothered me either. Most movie Russian accents end up sounding like Boris and Natasha, so I'm pretty happy we ended up with Connery's normal voice. That transition between Russian and English is great.

It's like the complaints about aliens speaking English in Star Trek. It's a stylistic choice, so you know what Martok and Gowron are saying to one another, or whatever. Bugged the ever living fuck out of me when they insisted on the Klingons speaking Klingonese to one another in Discovery and having to read the subtitles. Although, I admit, it was amusing in the one episode of season 2 where their translators started making it so everyone was speaking a different language and if you had the subtitles on it told you what language they were speaking (eg [In Vulcan]: blah blah) and one guy was speaking Welsh of all things.

I use captioning on most of what I watch and have noticed a few times where the language will be cited. But, it's also ruined a few plots because they'll name an unseen actor who is the villain, etc.

I've been watching everything with captions for over 20 years now. It started as something for my wife who's a non-native English speaker. But I quickly came to love never having to strain to make something out or miss dialogue. You realize how often dialogue slips by otherwise. It's not critical, but I like being able to see it all.

I decided to get caught up on some of the Disney+ catalog. Yesterday I watched Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny. I thought it was OK and was entertained enough as I watched it. The highlights for me were the prologue with Indy in Berlin and the battle at the climax of the movie.

Ever seen The Glass Key from 1942? There's a couple of scenes in that movie which inspired parts of Yojimbo (which in turn got remade as Fistful of Dollars and inspired lots of other movies).
Also, you'll recognize the origin of a lot of John Belushi's samurai mannerisms in Yojimbo.

I never watched Discovery, so I'm just going to say that Martok and Gowron are awesome. Worf's alright, but those two are my favorites of the TNG/DS9 era Klingons.

I always avoid captions on comedies for a similar reason, I don't want to read a punchline before the actor can deliver it.

Especially with modern movies, it seems like they've lost all ability to mix sound properly. It used to be that was a joke about Christopher Nolan's movies, but now it's everything. I don't always use subtitles, but they are nice to have.

I rewatched Last Action Hero a couple of years back. I'm guessing that the meta-commentary was a little too ahead of its time. I also didn't understand what Whiskers was doing in the film except that Who Framed Roger Rabbit was still kind of fresh in the public mind at the time.

that's what im thinking, but every location for it is china. which i thought was kind of strange. not that i have anything against the country where nearly every product i use on a daily basis comes from.

I was 13 when the movie came out, and just watched it for the first time last year. At the time of it's release I remember thinking it looked corny, and feeling disappointed that he wasn't making more badass movies like Total Recall or Predator.
The movie was indeed corny. I'm glad I skipped it at the time.
