Outlander (2008)
A strange movie that I love to watch about a soldier from another planet whose ship crashes into Viking territory, bringing along a dragon. Quote:

Solarbabies (1986) Feels more like a mid 90's movie than mid '80s. Came across the DVD at a thrift store a while back, just got around to watching it. Turns out there was a reason someone got rid of it.

This is becoming as intricate as Star Wars, which is one reason I stay away from Star Wars.
![]() I don't think that Godzilla was really ever supposed to literally be a cross between a Gorilla and a whale, but that is where the name comes from. Pretty much all the concept art has the radioactive dinosaur we all know and love, and I don't think there's much to indicate that they really considered anything else. Toho, producer Tanaka, director Honda and several other major production heads all said that the name Gojira came from the nickname for a large Toho employee who had the build of a gorilla and a love for whale meat. The director's wife suggested sometime in the 90s that the nickname story may have been a tall tale, so who knows? As far as watching the series goes, like James Bond and the Universal Monsters, the continuity is really pretty loose, so most of them can be enjoyed without really knowing the continuity, with the possible exception of the 1984-1995 films. Better than I expected. I watched because I wanted to see Lee Van Cleef in a ninja movie. ![]() ![]() Quote:
Everything from the knockoff A-Team van to the pet rat (did TMNT get the idea for Splinter from this show?) to trying to get us to believe that LVC was a ninja is entertainment gold. MST3k did a couple of really funny episodes with Master Ninja I and II, which were two "movies" edited from episodes of the Master. Last edited by SnowCat; 02-03-2025 at 11:41 AM.. |

You know, Bill the Butcher might be my all time favorite DDL performance, even over Daniel Plainview. I think There Will be Blood is the better movie, but Bill is such an awesome character. His performance as Bill is simply sublime, he's like a burning sun of intensity that makes the audience uneasy but yet fascinated. Every second of screen time with him is an absolute treat. But good lord are Leo and Cameron Diaz bad in this. Performances by Daniel Day Lewis and minor character performances by John C Reily, and Brendan Gleason more than make up for it though. |

Stagecoach (1939)
Excellent. That movie has a great cast. A strange movie that is worth the hype (but not good in HD). The old SNL comedians chose their holiday movies well (even Mixed Nuts). Ha. They contributed to the myth, but I guess it's best not to overthink creature features with a non-speaking creature too much. Quote:

![]() I like the way DDL worked, but the way he retired was respectable (in a society where most performers/celebs stay too long/won't go away).

Watched FREAKY last night with Vince Vaughn. Pretty hilarious horror movie, and Vince playing a high school girl is great. Good for a laugh or two.

Yojimbo (1961)
A Fistful of Dollars (1964) Sanjuro (1962) All three are phenomenal movies. Yep, that was my main reason for buying it. Too bad the cast was wasted on that movie. He actually has several ninja fights with Sho Kosugi during the events in EFNY, we just don't see them. |

Agents of SHIELD: Season Three
Not a big fan of this season. Hydra, being reformed under Ward, isn't as interesting as previous iterations and the introduction of Hive is just stupid. I hate them retconning Hydra to be an organization founded to return this shitty character back to Earth. Hydra was a lot better when it was founded by Red Skull and had nothing to do with the Hive plot.

I've been watching the first season of Silo on Apple TV, and am really enjoying it so far, even if it isn't brilliant like Severance. Lots of curveballs where major characters are quickly off the show and it pivots to someone else. There are parallels to Fallout.
I also recently caught up with all the seasons of Slow Horses. Gary Oldman steals the show. Quote:

I never got into SHIELD but remember HIVE as a DC thing in the wonderful Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans run: ![]() Last edited by karamazov80; 02-07-2025 at 09:42 AM.. |
