Outlander (2008)
A strange movie that I love to watch about a soldier from another planet whose ship crashes into Viking territory, bringing along a dragon.

Solarbabies (1986) Feels more like a mid 90's movie than mid '80s. Came across the DVD at a thrift store a while back, just got around to watching it. Turns out there was a reason someone got rid of it.

I did learn that the Godzilla we've seen isn't what was originally intended. Something along the lines of the un-Americanized name being a cross between a bear and a whale, or an ape and a whale. Something odd. The creature they went with makes more sense given the history of the world/warfare.

Star Wars is easy, there's only three movies.

I don't think that Godzilla was really ever supposed to literally be a cross between a Gorilla and a whale, but that is where the name comes from. Pretty much all the concept art has the radioactive dinosaur we all know and love, and I don't think there's much to indicate that they really considered anything else. Toho, producer Tanaka, director Honda and several other major production heads all said that the name Gojira came from the nickname for a large Toho employee who had the build of a gorilla and a love for whale meat. The director's wife suggested sometime in the 90s that the nickname story may have been a tall tale, so who knows?

As far as watching the series goes, like James Bond and the Universal Monsters, the continuity is really pretty loose, so most of them can be enjoyed without really knowing the continuity, with the possible exception of the 1984-1995 films.

Better than I expected. I watched because I wanted to see Lee Van Cleef in a ninja movie.

There's a definite cowboys vs. ninja vibe, but also one of Chuck Norris' more watchable movies. I couldn't help but see parallels between his character's backstory and that of SE and SS.

That movie's a blast. I think the GI Joe creatives took in a lot of early 80's ninja cinema because there's a lot of stuff in movies like it and Enter the Ninja that seem to have influenced SE and SS.

That show's hilarious fun.
Everything from the knockoff A-Team van to the pet rat (did TMNT get the idea for Splinter from this show?) to trying to get us to believe that LVC was a ninja is entertainment gold.

MST3k did a couple of really funny episodes with Master Ninja I and II, which were two "movies" edited from episodes of the Master.

Gangs of New York (2002)

You know, Bill the Butcher might be my all time favorite DDL performance, even over Daniel Plainview. I think There Will be Blood is the better movie, but Bill is such an awesome character. His performance as Bill is simply sublime, he's like a burning sun of intensity that makes the audience uneasy but yet fascinated. Every second of screen time with him is an absolute treat. But good lord are Leo and Cameron Diaz bad in this. Performances by Daniel Day Lewis and minor character performances by John C Reily, and Brendan Gleason more than make up for it though.
