I don't know much about comics Luthor, so I'm just going off of how he works as a villain in the film. He just doesn't seem smart enough to be much of a threat.

40 year old virgin again. Trish is such a freaking scammer. She mysteriously pops into town running an "ebay store" then mysteriously closes shop again shortly after opening when Andy goes looking for her. Probably because her M.O is to pocket the ebay money from selling peoples belongings without paying them and then skipping town. Andy would have been better off with Elizabeth Banks if he could help her with her drinking but instead he took the easy road and probably got scammed as well after Trish takes off shortly after the honeymoon with his money selling his collectibles. It's like Heartbreakers with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sigourney Weaver masquerading with a weird veneer of a positive outcome.

The Prestige is also a book that the Nolans adapted. VH in the IJ era would've been interesting given the lack of CGI but I'm sure there was some films made in the "early" CGI-heavy era that would be far better if made nowadays. Groundbreaking effects don't always work well or age well (remember the Scorpion King from The Mummy Returns).

Love the waxing scene from that movie. It's a fun comedy, and pretty tame for a film that's focused on the main character's sex life. Jane Lynch has a ton of great lines, but the script overall works more than it doesn't: "...and it feels like...a bag of sand..."

Enjoying your pessimistic take on the story. In that universe, Andy probably hooks up with Trish's daughter to start making OnlyFans content after mom loses all of the eBay $ in a crypto coin scam.
