On the topic of Burt...Anyone see his movie Rent-a-Cop with Liza Minnelli from 1987? I rewatched this movie on Tubi last year. I first saw it on the airplane when my mom and I went to Spain in the Summer of 1989.
I have to say that I remembered a lot more of this movie than I expected to. One of the stand outs for me was Dionne Warwick's murder. I also remembered Reynolds' description of Dancer after reading his file. Dancer is described as having killed four cops who were attempting to arrest him, If that's the case, you kind of wonder how he was still free. One would think that every Chicago cop and his brother would have gone after him and not stopped until he was in cuffs or in a body bag. It's also notable that the movie avoids the "Black Dude Dies First" with Bernie Casey. Overall, I have to say that it's not a horrible movie or a bad way to spend an hour and a half, but it's definitely from when Burt's career was on the downswing. |

...watched Forbidden Zone (1980) with Herve Villechaize and Oingo Boingo for the first time. It was a slog in places, a wild ride in others.

You can't go wrong w/Michael Keaton or Kurt Russell, as you know. You've got some solid Carpenter choices there (assuming it's the original AoP13). I'd throw in Halloween III for Tom Atkins, the Last Starfighter bc it's a classic, and if you're willing to go Hitchock, the Cary Grant movie Notorious. The Christopher Reeve version of Rear Window is also good, bc of his real life situation, and his version of Village of the Damned (directed by John Carpenter) is good. If you're open to blu-ray, I'd recommend the Frank Darabont deluxe version of The Mist w/Tom Jane because it has a special black-and-white version of the movie that FD wanted to release but the studio wouldn't go for it. It heightens the atmosphere and makes some of the emotional responses more sensible. And, if you like weird twists, the Jim Caviezel movie Outlander isn't great but it's fun to see a spaceship land on the vikings. Edited to add: Night of the Creeps, The Monster Squad, Reign of Fire, Cliffhanger, Michael Mann's Manhunter, The Silencing, and Dog Soldiers.
