It's the first time I've watched, too. More for the sake of completionism of the franchise. The "reason" made sense in a way, but not really. It felt more like an attempted reboot with the core team (JC/AS/LH) as well as a continual crapping on the films that came before. JC mostly only wrote what pertained to AS. I didn't mind the new characters, but the excitement of the franchise is gone.

I tend to stick with just the first movie. The second is a more expensive looking remake, albeit a well made one. Everything else is boring, uninspired filler.

I really like T2, but I agree that it's sometimes so close to the original that it's almost a remake. I definitely prefer the 1984 original.

Sad to hear that Linda Hamilton, who was great in the first two films, was unlikeable in this one.
