I'm waiting to get it on (well... whatever is released from the above options) to actually see the extras. I thought the film was alright at best, but I'm genuinely interested in learning how they did the animation and 3D shooting. This is one film that should have hours of extra footage. And it better be on a second HD disc, too. |

Same way it does at the theatre, you need the right tv that can support it, player that can display it and then the goggles (which aint cheap)...they have a demo setup at most big best buy stores of the new 3d in home equipment. This is retails new big cash cow for home tehatre since there is almsot zero margin in most lcd/plasma tvs today. |

I don't think the 3D tv will catch on though, at least not with a wide market immersion rate. Not for years, anyway, if at all. It's just a gimmick that's popped back up lately in Hollywood, and it's extremely expensive to do right. Even conversion is expensive as hell for regular formatted films. I for one am not in the mood for a 3D TV that I have to wear some goggles to watch. If they eventually figure out a way to watch it without goggles, then maybe... |

I'm pretty sure they also did it because they rushed out the movie to Blu-Ray (didn't these things used to take more than 4 months?) to cash in sooner, and will release one of the following by Christmas to double-dip and cash in again: an extended/Director's Cut, an upcoming 3D version (not sure how this would work at home?), or a fully-loaded Blu-Ray with all the extras.

Yeah, they were still riding the films hype, being why it came out so quick, but I'm telling you, I have a 46'inch HDTV and use my PS3 for my Blu-Rays, My PS3/HDTV has impressed me before, BUT this release REALLY maxes out my TV's resolution, I have NEVER seen a better looking Image on my screen before, not like this! I thought that Bit-Rate stuff was just an excuse, but after watching this disc last night, I was BLOWN away, never seen my screen that crisp and sharp!
I was sorta miffed when I got to Target and saw the "2-disc combo pack!" blurb across the top, but with no extras. At least there's the DVD in it, that should be standard for Blu-Ray discs, if you ask me. I would get LOTR on Blu-Ray, but I want to get the extended versions, not the theatrical releases, so I'll have to wait for that too. |

I'm the same way, If it's an awesome visual EFX film, I'll buy it in BluRay cause I love watching Sci-fi/fantasy films in all their glory, but any other type film like say "GOODFELLAS" or just a standard Drama, I'll buy it in Standard DVD...I mean I don't need to see Deniros or pescis nose hair lol...

Saw it finally, liked it but wasn't as ground breaking as claimed. I saw only enhancements to what has been established in previous films. A few points that the film looked "cartoony" (Jake in the water stuck out alot, fire on his torch, getting on the top of the buldozer). For a "ground breaking" that everyone has gone on and on about visuals about I wasn't expecting that.
Plot wise I saw dances with wolves, Return of the Jedi, Furngully, and several other films tossed in together. Some of it was so obvious I would catch myself saying what film it was from as it went. Did all the animals need ot have an extra set of appendage, I realize they were trying to make them exotic but they were exotic enough without it. Also caused me to question why the Na'vi didn't have it. Definatly the bluest movie I have ever seen. Stil ther was plenty to like, the battles were good, the way it sold you on a planet so interconnected was solid. There were places i could have seen this going to hell and it managed to find its way out. Also I had flashbacks of Micheal Jackson's Billy Jean video (If you ahve seen it you might know what I am saying). But I knew it couldn't live up to the hype so I held off a bit |

If Cameron takes everything he learned off Avatar and puts it to Battle Angel, I'm gonna have a geekgasm in the theater. He literally delayed Battle Angel so he could dom Avatar first and then apply what he learned off that.
