So back in August, my brother got me the first 2 DVD's of the X-Men animated series. I remember watching a few episodes back when it originally aired in the early to mid '90's but stopped watching them when I fell out of comics around '94. So I started watching this series and WOW! it's better than I remember. I'm really surprised how they go about hitting a lot of the major story arcs in X-history. They may not be exact but they're dynamite representations. I think it's great that the episodes and stories really run through one another. Some of the episodes stand alone I suppose but it's pretty neat to have the suspense build up at the end of a 2 part story to be left guessing what comes next. I don't know much about cartoons these days but growing up I can't recall a cartoon structured in this particular way. I guess it helps that I'm a HUGE fan of the X-Men but I think almost anyone would enjoy this series. I think it's a great introduction into the X-Men too, if you don't have a vast knowledge of it already. They're only 19.99 a set (4 of them are out already) and each set has between 14 and 17 episodes. A pretty good deal if you ask me. I guess this sounds like a review. If you're a fan of the series or want to check it out... let's discuss.

I love mine. That was a great series. I am so glad they released them on DVD.

the series was awesome! need to get the newer sts as well. I liked that they hit all the arcs and were able to make them their own while staying close to the original.

I've been waiting for this series to hit DVD since the first X-Men films. I remember a few episodes made it out until someone put up a stink over rights or something and had them pulled, amazing how well the series holds up even to this day.

I agree that it has held up remarkably well over the years. I'm very excited for the last set to come out.

Does anyone know if the Wolverine and X-Men series followed any of the continuity from this series?

Nope, all new, but in a good way.

The old series was completely groundbreaking for an american series because up until then nothing had that level of continuity (most anime didn't even come close). In that way it was a lot like the comic in ways no other adaptation had been. Interestingly enough, X-Men: Evolution and the new series both use that same approach to very good effect, rewarding viewers who tune in every week.

A somewhat related side-story: one of the animators on the 1990s X-Men show was a patient in the otorhinolaryngology clinic I was rotating in at the Philippine General Hospital (the show was animated in the Philippines). I can't remember what his exact diagnosis was, but he had suddenly lost his voice (IIRC, his vocal cords were paralyzed for some reason). Anyway, he carried a small note pad with him so he could communicate with others, and sometimes, instead of writing something out, he'd just sketch out a little scene explaining in visual terms what he meant to say. Nice guy. I remember him drawing a Wolverine sketch for the kids in the waiting room this one time while waiting for his turn to be examined.

my brother got me the complete series on DVD a few years back.
It was a bunch of bootleg TV rips but they looked great and were awesome to watch!!
The only thing I hated when it aired and still hate to this day is Jubilee.. most USELESS mutant ever! I hated how a lot of the story revolved around her... what a waste!
