I've noticed in the Favorite Film thread, a number of people have posted either Ghostbusters I or II as one of their favorite movies. Well, I just wanna make a thread so everyone can share the love for two of the finest films ever made ^_^
I just finished playing the new Ghostbusters game for the Wii, and I had a blast. Went and rewatched those old films. Just wonderful. Now I'm planning on a custom series of Ray, Winston, Egon, and Venkman. Maybe toss in Louis, Janine, and Walter Peck (it's true, this man has no dick). Those films were huge parts of my childhood; my father loved a kind of fantastic workingman's tale, my brother loved the comedy that went over my head at the age I saw these, and I loved a bunch of funny guys zapping ghosts :P~ Now, personally, I prefer Ghostbusters II to Ghostbusters I, and as far as I understand no one shares my opinion, but I'm willing to debate that ^^ There are few movies that I adore so completely as the two Ghostbusters, few to none I have seen so many times, and none that I have memorized to such an embarrassing scale :P Any of you have some precious memories of the one, the only, Ghostbusters?

Ahhh, totally forgot Slimer :/ While I never understood *why* he became the Ghostbusters mascot, the fact of the matter is that he is the mascot, and therefore deserves as much the right as Peck. I'd just need to do a clear acrylic box for him, like in the game ^^

Some moron brought a cougar to a party and it went berserk.
That line always makes me laugh hysterically. I don't know why. |

"Okay, who brought the dog?"
That whole sequence, especially with the bellhop saying the line you mentioned, is just priceless ^_^ Shame that Rick Moranis isn't acting anymore... I just don't know if they could go through with a third Ghostbusters without their hirsute lawyer. Tycondrius, I don't plan on getting any of the Mattel Ghostbusters figures. While my love for the blue-collar paranormal investigators is great, my thorough distaste for Mattel is even greater. If they go through with the 1:18th scale, as they had mentioned in some Q&As, though... I could forseeably break down. Wait. Someone made a Walter Peck figure?? Does he have an inane bureaucrat action-feature? That I must have.

Something about Ghostbusters, especially the first, just feels like New York. Like actually being in Manhattan, or even other real cities. It's got the good and the bad, the citizens that will love or hate you, but not the exaggerated New York that is such a cliché in other films, depicted as the most magnificent place on earth, or a wreched cesspool. It's somehow balanced. And the film is shot like a drama and action film, not a screwball comedy, like so many films starring SNL alumni.
Saw it wih my family and we missed the beginning, but the theater let us ait through the credits and catch what we misswd on the next showing! Thanks...mysterious theater I don't remember! I dont like part 2 quite as much, but its still cool, and part of the holy summer trinity of 89, along with Batman and Indy 3. Want to get the blu-ray, but I've read the transer is awful. |

Snakeeyes22, love that point about NY. An ex lived there, so I visited once a month for a few years. It tuned my senses to what movies set in NY were actually portraying the Big Apple, as opposed to aping it. I'd add to that list the second Spider-Man movie and Leon:the Professional ^^
And what a wonderful story about the theatre. I'm convinced that Ghostbusters speaks, as Ray said, "to the best in every one of us." So, peeps, keep em' coming~!

This should be in the movies section ;)
Anyways, Egon is my favourite! I still have my Ecto-1, Egon, Janine, Stay Puft and my brother has his Slimer toys. For some reason, I always like the smart, scientist type characters (including Donatello from TMNT). I have both the movies, the game and the season 1 DVD. I love the first movie the best!
