didn't care for it!? wow, I must say that to me, personally your viewpoints are no longer valid. Any credible hiphop historian, or even casual everyday listener would never say that little about that album. Listen to "the message", the second track, and tell me that song is not near perfection. That album was probably one of the most anticipated second albums ever...and it did not dissapoint.
Whatever happens now, or recently between crossover artists, does not tarnish or taint the accomplishments of the past. Nas was, and probably will always be, considered one of rap's best lyricist/artist ever. Sorry, but I can no longer take you seriously. The major difference between listener's like you and me is I was there awaiting that album, from the sound of your response (I am assuming), it seems you might have heard it sometime later thus incapable to really truly feel the impact it had compared to it's peers at the time and the state of hiphop during that year. It's like that old saying, "you had to have been there". i always felt nas, biggie an pac were over rated.. busta rhymes was one of the illest in his time. an we never hear shit about him. i remember on a old doo wop mix tape i had back in the day an they always had freestyles from local ny talent. an busta was murdering it. another emcee that used to do cameos on them mix tapes was a cat named snagglepuss,, heavens to merkatroid even. dude was sick, but very unheard of. i searched youtube for him but no dice.. an doo wop outside the tri state you might not be aware of who he is, but he was a pr dj that rolled with all the latins, at one point him an tony touch had a cd out, it was the diaz brothers maybe? something like that, that was doo wop at a later date.. |

Me! Great group, Automator+Del+Kid Koala=awesomeness. Definitely need a sophmore LP.
Anyone here anything new from EL-P? Wu Tang? I heard many months ago that Wu was beefing internally. Is the Chamber Music LP any good? Still waiting for The Cure, a Deck LP produced all by RZA, and another Liquid Swords LP produced by RZA. Hey I can dream. Aside from Non Phix disbanding and Goretex not having a sophmore LP(Gore was my favorite member of NP), I was also bummed that Can Ox might not reunite. Cannibal Ox's Cold Vein is one of the best albums I have heard in years. Listening to Cage's Depart from Me now, not bad, production is pretty crazy, I prefer Hell's Winter so far, but that album is very hard to top. |

I'm not a big fan of Flo-Rida, matter of fact I think he's probably one of the worst rappers I have ever heard, but I'm sure people in Florida and teenagers all over the US think he's bananas. Feel me?

I used to listen to Jay-Z a year after Reasonable Doubt came out, up until he released Blueprint. I think he is a great business man, but as a rapper, I haven't listened to him much since high school.
As for Nas, I was never a big fan, he is okay but in spurts, Illmatic was good, and the track he had with Large Prof and Akinelye back in the early 90's was beast, kid came out of nowhere and killed the mic. Every few years he has tracks that are dull then he comes out with a good album, but I haven't listened to him much in the last 5 years. I heard his last 2 albums were good, the latter being apparently great from what my friends told me but I haven't bothered listening. |

UNCLASSIFIED didn't care for it either so are you gonna say the same thing about him? For the record I think Flo-Rida sucks. Just because I live here doesn't mean I listen to his crap. Sorry but Nas is not one of the greatest lyricists. He rambles on at times about absolutely nothing to do with the song and at other times says a few lines in a row that have no rhyme. Or how about when he deliberately mispronounces words to make rhymes? It's the same thing Jay Z does and it drives me crazy. So if you don't care for my opinion you might as well stop reading this whole thread because more than just myself have said they don't care for Nas. BTW do you remember "I Know I Can?" ...enough said.

Check this out. It's one of the best (and funniest) diss songs and the best part is he's dead on with everything he says.

His serious songs are actually really good. He's big on old school West Coast and it's reflected in alot of his music. He's the only rapper I've ever seen that plays guitar and has a full band. When he's live he never uses background tracks, it's all live. It's really a rare site nowadays.
