Holy crap!
I just got done watching this latest DC universe animated film and have to say I'm seriously impressed. Anyone whom is a fan of Green Lantern, DC comics in general, or straight up action needs to see this movie. DC finally is getting their groove on with animated movies. The initial movies they did (Superman: Doomsday, Batman: Gotham Knight) were good, but kinda lacking in some areas. Wonder Woman was pretty good, too, though at times seemed like they didn't want to really go full-on WOnder Woman with her powers and stuff. But this one... It retells Hal Jordan first becoming Green Lantern, but it kind of modernizes it as well as Sinestro (he wears his Yellow Lantern outfit) Plus the cameos of several Lanterns. Kilowog gets a pretty descent role in the movie as well as Boodikka, and even a few other familiar Lanterns make appearances even if just for fight scenes. The fight scenes in this are just really well done and the plot just keeps you moving with no real slow down. It's like right when you start up the movie, it jumps into high gear showing Hal getting the ring, becoming one of the GL Corps, dealing with enemies, and of course, a big epic fight with Sinestro. There's some comedy thrown in as well, but it doesn't really affect things. This movie makes me hopeful also with the next animated film Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, which they show a preview of. It also makes me hope to see In Blackest Night animated in the future as well. And more Kilowog, Ch'p, and Arisia next time would be nice too. Maybe even hints at the other human GLs... ^_^ Anyone else seen the movie? |

I agree, it's really good.
And I'm pretty nitpicky about animation. |

I hate to say it but I was really disappointed.
First off I'm a huge GL fan been looking forward to this and bought the blu ray version with the figure at best buy. My problem is that this was a great SINESTRO movie and Hal seemed like a second tier star to me. I think Justice League New Frontier was a better GL origin movie than this one. I think they did great with the corps but barely had anyone interact with Hal beside Sinestro. Kilowog had some good lines, Boodika was great (but I was surprised at how her story went) Ch'pp was ok comic relief. However I was disapointed at Arisa. She was constantly on screen but said what 2 words? Plus Ganthet sounded like Kermit the frog! It was a good first try and the extras were amazing but I know they can do better with GL and I can only hope the movie is nothing like this animated feature. |

A reason for the quick Hal origin story was stated because they had already covered the origin story in a descent way in Justice League: New Frontier, which is why they didn't really go into it that much in GL: FF
I do agree in seemed to give Sinestro more development, but it still shows Hal adjusting to being part of this intergalactic police force that initially hates him, but soon the follow corpsmen and women begin to respect him and see him being a hero and not just looking down at him for how the human race is seen. I also agree Arisia didn't get much for lines. I did notice some hints at her interest in Hal over the movie though. Surprised I didn't see a few other famous GLs unless I just didn't notice them. If any DC animated movie deserves a sequel, this would be one of them. Heck, I could see this as a start to a whole animated series based in the GL universe. Batman and Superman can hold a cartoon series, but I think Green Lantern could too. He's got some good villains. Plus they could maybe bring in John, Guy, and Kyle in some ways over time. |

I've really been looking forward to this coming out. If I watch it this weekend, I'll post my thoughts on Monday. If not, I'll be jealous of everyone who does get to see it before me.
