Good Fellas might be one of the best movies ever made. Casino is a great movie too. Both still hold up and don't feel dated at all. These are must watch movies. I can give you a pass on the Godfather. To me it's a bit overly dramatic and drags. It also now feels very dated. Part 2 is a bit better, part 3 wasn't all that great.

One of the things that gets lost of new comers to Goodfellas is how original and inventive the film is because of how many films have stolen from it since then. "There's only ONE Irishman over here!" Godfather I&II is dated but I think the patina why it works for me. Plus its nice to see Pacino act with his face and carry a movie with a handful of lines rather than just shout for 2 hours. 3 is just God awful (no pun intended.)

I'm going to add one that was on this list until recently, and failed to live up because I "saw it too late": Labyrinth. Came highly recommended, gave it a go, and didn't get the hype. I understand see how seeing when I was 6-8 would've put it high in my list of classics, but watching it as an adult with 0 nostalgia behind it made it feel a bit cringey. The whole time I was watching it, I just kept turning the volume up and down because the sing alongs were driving me batshit. The neighbors must have thought I'd finally flipped.
Dark Crystal, though... now we're talking.

Never seen any Godfather movies, either.
I saw Goodfellas well after most of it was over parodied in pop culture, same with The Exorcist. They aren't bad movie at all, of course, but when you already know so much by proxy, it's a bit odd. Still never seen Lawrence of Arabia, and I think I got the DVD when a Hollywood Video went out of business. Disney cartoon musicals? Never seen any besides Lilo and Stitch. I didn't like singing in cartoons when I was a kid and I still find them hard to sit through. The Blair Witch project. The camera work would probably make me nauseous like Cloverfield did at first. |

That movie freaked me out when I was a kid. Since we're adding TV shows: I've never seen anything on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I've never seen any of the recently popular HBO, Cinemax, or Showtime series. And, although I grew-up in the 90s, I've never seen an episode of "E/R".

I feel like I'm missing out a bit with the Netflix thing, though. I'm a lifelong Castlevania fan, and I'd love to give that a go. Also, I could totally see how the Dark Crystal would freak you out, while I myself was always super fascinated by the grotesque as a kid, it definitely helped that I was 10 or so when i saw it. I’ve never seen Blair Witch either. I worked on the nights my friends all went to the movies, so a lot of stuff was talked to death before I got a chance to see it, and it killed my interest. Cloverfield was so bad though. One of the only movies I’ve ever watched where I fast forwarded through parts of the movie the first time I watched it. Ugh.
a well done flick with a very unique and new concept that got aped to death, and typically very poorly at that. I was disappointed in Cloverfield. Cool concept on paper, but man, what a shitty movie.

Same here on both counts, I'm actually thankful in retrospect that my folks weren't fans of E/R, at the age I was back then, it really didn't appeal. No blood and guts, and people die of "natural causes"? No thanks! Never seen an episode of Friends, either- the "ninjaku" household was not sitcom country...

I also think the Beatles are massively overrated and I kind of hate them. Grab the pitchforks!
