I gotta go with Dolph, his minimalist approach really captured the essence of the character:
Bad Guy: Say something! Punisher: F*%k you! I also liked the sewer voiceovers, and running shotgun battle with the van full of ninjas. |

Ray Stevensen, but the scene where Jane fights Nash is sweet.

It's too crappy to call! But, I have to say I liked Thomas Jane just a bit better. Yeah, Ray had the look down, but Jane edged him out with the phony fire hydrant he conveniently carries with him! Just kidding.
Too be honest, Dolph's Punisher was a better movie. I loved all that cheesy 80's schtick. And don't forget Louis Gossett Jr! I had a bootleg of this when it first hit and I watched it a zillion times. I wish they would adapt Mack Bolan to film, though! I have the first 50 or so of The Executioner. Good stuff! JLT |

Im a big TJ fan, but Ill admit his Punisher movies wasnt the best movie. There was a lot I liked about it, but I hated Travolta and the "comic book feel" of the movie. I did see Warzone when it came out and man, it was complete and utter shit. No other way to describe it. It was just a big steaming pile of dog excrement. Stevenson couldnt act his way out of a wet paper bag and the rest of the cast was flat out horrible. It was just a "lets go as big and ridiculous as possible on the effects, guns and killing and HOPE nobody notices how shitty the movie really is" movie.
It seems like they cant get the Punisher right because theyre trying to appease too many people at once. They either go too "family" like Janes did (even though it was violent and R rated, if you take out all the "fuck" words its PG-13 at the worst) or they go too far off the deep end like they did with Warzone and nobody gives a shit because when you dont have "actors" and you have horrible writing and no real story, youve got no movie. |

Ray Stevenson...IS, Frank Castle aka The Punisher! Stevenson, was more intense and physically bigger than Tom Jane. Frank Castle is not as skinny as Jane. Stevenson was closest to the 80's Punisher, as he was never without his kevlar, emblazoned with his Punishing Skull Logo! Dolph may have skipped that awesome looking, criminal scaring, skull, but Tom Jane just had a T-shirt, which is not intimidating at all. To me Punisher War Zone, and The Punisher with Dolph as Frank Castle are Awesome Superhero Films. Tom Jane also got the lamest villains in either of the 3 Punisher Films. Dolph fought Ninja, Yakuza, and The Mob. Ray Killed a few Hundred mob enforcers. Tom took out...9 -12 bad guys. Clearly there was not enough Punishment in Tom's Film. Ray's film gets more love from me as it is the only one with Microchip! I thought it made sense to include Castle's weapons and tech expert, who is also his partner in killing criminals in NYC! I hope if there is another Punisher film, that finally he gets his Battlevan as well!

Ray Stevenson....With out a doubt. And I am a HUGE Punisher fan.
the main problem is both they tired to make too much story not enough ass kicking (but War Zone had a good amount). Dolph Lundgrens Punisher was gritty and a killer good for it's time but...cheesy by modern standards. biggest issue of all 3 movies: 1- TJ Punisher- His Parents still alive, his Son (only cause his name was not Frank Jr but Will) and No daughter. 2-TJ Punisher finally starts killing people in the bar. Scene was designed to be the Fight Scene from Punisher Year One. So Marvel was telling me that Jon Travolta was gonna Jigsaw....GTFO her. 3-RS Punisher kills more people in the opening scene than TJ killed in an entire movie. But you have to wait all movie for more scenes like that. 4-Lets cram every character from the MAX comic in this book and see if they catch on.....Really, Micro was cool but McGinnity, Budenski, Soap, The Serbian mafia guys... 5-YES we know it is a comic book movie but Why keep treating an "R" rated character like a PG-13 character and doing cartoony comic book things with it.....(this was more visible in WZ) 6- besides being a campy cheesy 80's movie.....I really have nothing bad to say about Dolph's Punisher movie besides no Skull

Seriously, how hard would it have been to have him wear a t shirt with a skull on it?
