Love it or hate it Episode 1 hit ten years ago. At this time a decade ago you could have popped my excitement like a balloon. My friends and I lined up ten years ago tonight to buy tickets, my buddies sleeping in the parking lot of the new Carmike theatres in Salt Lake. A guy had brought his motor home and a projector and was playing the original trilogy on the side of it.
We were nearly first in line for the 1030 AM showing the next day and had tickets for the next show in the same theatre. We watched in awe as the crawl started and with breathless excitement watched the story unfold. After the first showing we stayed in the theatre and sat for the second showing dead center. That day's experiences were a dream come true and wrapped in the blanket of new Star Wars we didn't care about plot holes or Jar-Jar, we just ate the experience up. Ten years past TPM seems like the, well...bad movie that it is, but regardless, I will love it till the day I die. Now, discuss amongst yourselves.

The Jar Jar hate didn't come until several months AFTER the movie was in theaters. That whole summer there was nothing but love that Star Wars was finally back. Some of us kept that feeling throughout the Prequel run, and some of us lost it.

I kept it. The whole experience was awesome and EP2 AND 3 was even better. Celebrations 2 and 3 helped fuel that fire that was burning. The toy runs were great and the overall movie experience was good. I saw EP1 at midnight and of course I hit TRU for the first midnight madness

I still think the lightsaber battle at the end between Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul is the best lightsaber battle of any of the movies.

I was just watching "Taken" on DVD last night and all I could think of Liam Neesan was that Qui-gon could kick some major ass.

I still remember walking out of the theatre absolutely dumbstruck and feeling like i'd been kicked square in the nuts. Same feeling i got walking out of 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' last year.
i actually am reasonably ok with 2 and especially 3, but TPM is just an unredeamable steaming pile, I can honestly say i'll only watch it one more time ever in life, when my son is old enough to watch the SW movies...

I remember that day!
I also remember waiting in line for tickets a few days before and my teacher saying to me the next day "i know where you were yesterday... what do you think your mother would think about you skipping class to buy tickets for a movie?!" "well considering she dropped me off Im pretty sure she said Have a good time!"
