More to the point, it would have felt like a rehash of the Dwarves arriving at Bilbo's house in the first movie.

I think it was a 'wow... i actually got injured...' I think Legolas was pissed because he thought he was way better than some stupid orcs and the fact he met one who drew blood and escaped hurt his pride.
And he's probably going to give Tauriel the third degree for not backing him up there and causing his win streak to get tarnished. I was thinking it was something like that too. Probably the first time he'd seen his own blood in a fight. I wasn't sure if he got bit in that fight on the shoulder though, and maybe infected or something. I really think having Legolas and Bard in the film made it better than AUJ. I know with the LOTR films, I got tired of Frodo and Sam and liked it better when Aragorn, Legolas, Gandalf or any other non-Hobbits were on screen better. That's mainly due to Elijah Wood being kind of annoying though. Is it just me or are all of his scenes in slow motion? Martin Freeman is great as Bilbo though. I hope the extended blu ray has more scenes for him. My only gripe is that they made Legolas seems like an older, more badass version of himself than he was in LOTR. It's like he's in a sequel, not a prequel. I know he was still killing everything in sight in the LOTR movies, but he was more flippant about it. Maybe the next movie will address that change in attitude. Has anyone seen the HFR version of this? I'm tempted to go see it again just for that while I can. |

The other thing about Legolas is why are his eyes so damn blue. I don't remember them being that blue in LOTR. It's like they couldn't reproduce his contacts. Either way, I'm glad he's back in the films. Good job PJ!!!

I liked this one, but hated the way it ended. I knew there would be another anyway, but they didn't have to make it so blatant. The movie doesn't stand alone because there's no resolution to it.

I finally got to see the HFR version and it's well worth it. I preferred seeing it that way to the standard version. The indoor scenes have a slightly odd look. I've read that it's like seeing a play on tv, and that pretty much nails it. But the outdoor scenes are amazing, especially the barrel chase/fight.
It felt like they could have ended it in a different spot, but I have no idea what will happen in the third film, so I really can't say. It's annoying to have to wait a year to see the conclusion, but that will only happen once. Whenever I watch them all on blu ray, I'll watch them all in three nights like I do with the LOTR films, so the endings really won't matter then. It's not one movie, it's a third of a movie. |

Ha! I never thought of it that way. And honestly, esb is my least favorite of the OT (but I still like it better ya baby of the PT!).

Then start the next movie with a flashback scene about the origins of dragons, and then they cut to the dwarves starting to go through the treasure, and Smaug breaks out of the pool to go after laketown. IDK, but I always thought PJ was clever in giving each LOTR and AUJ movie it's own stand alone ending and beginning. Oh well. Maybe the "There and Back Again" will knock my socks off and I won't care about this lousy ending.
