Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins the Batman Shortlist, and WB planning a Gotham City TV show?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan joins the Batman shortlist, and WB planning a Gotham City TV show? | Flickering Myth Wednesday, 7 August 2013 With The Dark Knight confirmed as returning to cinemas in 2015 alongside Henry Cavill's Man of Steel for Superman vs. Batman movie, we've already been treated to a healthy dose of rumours about potential candidates to succeed Christian Bale under the cape and cowl when DC's two most iconic characters clash in the hotly-anticipated team-up. Of course, it remains to be seen whether there's a modicum of truth in any of these casting reports, but when's that ever got in the way of a good scoop? Keep plucking enough names from thin air, and sooner or later someone is going to hit lucky... Several sites have already got in on the act, throwing up the likes of Josh Brolin (Oldboy), Ryan Gosling (Only God Forgives), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit), Max Martini (Pacific Rim), Matthew Goode (Watchmen), Josh Duhamel (Transformers), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Gerard Butler (300), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Brad Pitt (World War Z), Ben Affleck (Argo) and Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest) as possibilities for the role of Batman. And now we can add another name to that list, with Think McFly Think claiming that director Zack Snyder is looking at another Watchmen star in Jeffrey Dean Morgan, with the two apparently set to meet to discuss the role. Meanwhile, the site is also reporting that Warner has been mulling over a potential Gotham City Police Department TV series taking place in the Nolanverse, set between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, and with Jonathan Nolan attached. While the article offers nothing in the way of a source, it should be noted that WB are keen to build a DC universe on the small screen (see Arrow and the upcoming spin-off The Flash), and this isn't the first whisper of a potential Batman-less Batman TV series, with Bleeding Cool also reporting on rumours from Comic-Con last month. Still, it would be a huge surprise if Warner Bros. allowed its prized DC property to return to the small screen any time soon (even without regular appearances from Batman), but I guess time will tell... Orlando Bloom "odds on" for The Dark Knight in Superman vs Batman? Sunday, 11 August 2013 Orlando Bloom "odds on" for The Dark Knight in Superman vs Batman? | Flickering Myth Another day, another Batman casting rumour... according to The Daily Express, Warner Bros. may have already found their Dark Knight for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel Superman vs. Batman, with the newspaper claiming that Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings) "looks odds-on to get the part even before the first casting call. He would be perfect to play off Henry Cavill and I think US audiences would be happy with two Brits as the joint male leads." Now, before any Orlando Bloom fans get excited, it should be noted that The Express' report makes absolutely no reference to the Superman vs. Batman movie, instead claiming that Bloom and Cavill are set to play Batman and Superman in a Justice League film in 2017, with casting on Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter getting underway in the autumn. So, with that in mind, you'd have to assume that there's a pretty good chance this report is nothing but pure fiction. Superman vs. Batman is set for release in 2015, with Zack Snyder directing a script from David S. Goyer. Rumoured candidates for the role of Batman include Josh Brolin (Oldboy), Ryan Gosling (Only God Forgives), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit), Max Martini (Pacific Rim), Matthew Goode (Watchmen), Josh Duhamel (Transformers), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Gerard Butler (300), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Brad Pitt (World War Z), Ben Affleck (Argo), Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen), and Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2). Wes Bentley Apparently Christopher Nolan's Recommendation for the New Batman Wes Bentley apparently Christopher Nolan's recommendation for the new Batman | Flickering Myth Sunday, 18 August 2013 Well, it's been a while since we've had any more names pulled out of the hat as potential candidates to take over the role of The Dark Knight in Warner Bros.' upcoming Man of Steel sequel Batman vs. Superman, but fear not as CosmicBookNews has came up with a few more this weekend. According to the site, who has a dubious track record at best, Christopher Nolan has made his recommendation to Zack Snyder, tipping Wes Bentley (Ghost Rider, The Hunger Games) - who happens to be shooting Nolan's next film Interstellar as we speak - as Christian Bale's successor under the cape and cowl. Meanwhile, they also claim that Luke Evans (Immortals, The Crow) and Ben Affleck (Daredevil, Argo) will be offered screen tests, while screenwriter David S. Goyer is said to be keen on Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Brokeback Mountain). These four actors become the latest names to join an ever-increasing list of actors said to be under consideration, including Josh Brolin (Oldboy), Ryan Gosling (Only God Forgives), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit), Max Martini (Pacific Rim), Matthew Goode (Watchmen), Josh Duhamel (Transformers), Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Gerard Butler (300), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Brad Pitt (World War Z), Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings), Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen), and Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2). With Batman vs. Superman aiming for a 2015 release, Warner Bros. will surely be looking to finalise the next Dark Knight in the next month or so, at which point all this rampant speculation can start turning its attention towards the plot...

As this stage, I think it's fair to say everything is rumors and ideas that are being bandy about.

I don't even know how Jeffrey Dean Morgan has a movie career in the first place. Of all the people to move on from tv to movies, why him? He's just a fat slob with no screen presence at all.

I like the Nolan/Snyder team. I'm looking forward to this more than I am Avengers 2. I wasn't sure about the idea of using an older actor Batman, but it's kind of growing on me. Seeing Josh Brolin's name mentioned made me consider it more. I think him or Karl Urban would be great as sort of a grouchy, mistrusting version of Batman.
After seeing the new trailer for Arkham Origins though, I wish they'd just make a CGI Batman or Justice League movie that looked exactly like that. Deathstroke just looks amazing in that game. |

Even if DC somehow gets Batman/Superman out, I still have doubts they have the focus to actually do anything substantive with the properties they have.
Warner/DC is a political and bureaucratic nightmare that I think will kill any half interesting idea by the time it gets through the system. They just don't have the handful of key people running the show like Marvel does.

. also Nolan has said repeatedly(as recently as the MOS press tour) that his role on MOS was small and his role in any potential sequel or JL related stuff would be even more minor because he is all about Interstellar now and an untitled script he seems excited about making. kinda makes this "godfather"to the DC movies ring hollow.doubt there was ever any real truth in that. |

I dont really give Nolan too much credit for Man Of Steel.IMO Snyder and Goyer were the ones that delivered the sauce there.

So no, Nolan will not be the "godfather" of the cinematic DCU...should such a thing ever become a viable concept...which is doubtful unless Warner Brothers experiences a huge shift in how they do business. |

Nolan's got nothing to do with Superman/Batman. Legendary Pictures (the production company Nolan is part of) and Warner Brothers have parted ways, with Warner Brothers "buying out" Legendary's interest in Superman/Batman by giving them more money to make Interstellar.

I know a couple of Nolan fanboys that may actually have to take a sick day off work when they hear this....LOL. do you view this as a Negative,Positive or neither J? |
