What a good idea.
Nimoy Sneaks New Star Trek Movie Into Texas Cinema 7 April 2009 6:31 PM, PDT Star Trek superfans in Austin, Texas were treated to a surprise sneak peek of J.J. Abrams' sci-fi summer blockbuster on Monday night when the film was switched with a screening of 1982 sequel The Wrath Of Khan. Sci-fi fans packed the Alamo Draft House to see the Star Trek classic and were left stunned when they realised they were actually watching the first public screening of Star Trek, which doesn't open in cinemas until 8 May. According to EW.com, Trek veteran Leonard Nimoy and producer Damon Lindelhof came up with the idea of the Wrath of Khan hoax in a bid to created Internet interest in the upcoming blockbuster. Austin-based Harry Knowles, who runs movie spoiler website AintItCoolNews.com, reports the screening concluded with a standing ovation that lasted five minutes. He writes, "After the film, the audience was a collective smile, some crying they were so happy." Online reviews posted after the surprise screening call the new film "amazing" and "new and fresh, but it doesn’t forget its roots," while Twitter.com fans who saw the film posted review comments like, "Just saw the new Star Trek movie and it melted my pants!!!!!" |

mmmhmm looks promising, even though I haven't been a fan of 'Trek' in years.

I might be interested in this movie as a lark, but Star Trek died some time ago. The body may still be twitching, but the heart stopped right around the time the original cast wrapped things up.

I'm actually looking forward to the Star Trek prequel more than "Rise Of COBRA."
I'm not a Trekkie. Anything but. Star Wars guy. But I get choked up when Spock dies in "Wrath of Khan" every time. |

Yeah same here. Even though I own nothing more of Star Trek than Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country DVDs, I still cannot wait for this film.

I cannot wait for the new film! Just saw the new trailer on the big screen the other day... I didn't think it could look any better, but man.
I've always been a bigger Star Wars fan, over Trek, but the prequel SW films really killed it for me. A great premise destroyed (OK, more like beaten to a pulp) by bad directing with good actors. Trek, on the other hand, out of the 10, soon to be 11 Trek films, there were very few missteps: Trek 1: TMP - Good, but a bit long in the tooth. Trek 2: Wrath of Khan - Perfect Trek 3: Search for Spock - Great, and emotional Trek 4: Voyage Home - Great fun Trek 5: Final Frontier - God awful Trek 6: Undiscovered Country - A Great comeback Trek 7: Generations - Meh... great destruction scene Trek 8: First Contact - Perfect Trek 9: Insurrection - Longest TNG episode ever Trek 10: Nemesis - Fun end to the TNG adventures The series: Original: Great fun TNG: Fun - went on too long DS9: My favorite, took too long to get good though Voyager: Next Enterprise: Meh, it was better than Voyager at least. How cool would that be though to see the Wrath of Khan on the big screen again!? |
