Big, BIG horror genre fan here! My DVD collection numbers in the thousands, and a good portion are horror films.
I have just about every Hammer horror going, Mario Bava is my favourite director and I love giallo movies (Brilliant style, cool music and gorgeous women) But really, I'll go for most types of horror, though I tend to prefer older movies that rely on atmosphere. I don't really like the 'teens in peril' films that get churned out - The sort which has the 'attractive' cast in cool poses on the poster. No thanks... give me VIRGIN OF NUREMBURG, BLOODY PIT OF HORROR, BLOOD AND BLACK LACE and others of their ilk. A few more favourites: PHANTASM, the "Blind Dead" films, Fulci's THE BEYOND, SHOCKWAVES and Norman J Warren's TERROR Weirdest I've seen: Nekromantik 1 and 2..... hmmmmmmmm.

Love horror movies, I wish someone would make one. I haven't seen a good horror since Audition and Hostel 1 and 2. People keep releasing so called horror movies, but it's all shit. Same old stuff recycled over and over.
Only one movie has ever given me nightmares, Phantasm, saw that when I was four years old, haven't seen it since. |

Incredibly underated films, Christopher Lee was an awesome Dracula too..there was always something so damn.."cold" about those films and it made them creepier. As an 80's kid I dig Friday the 13th..have a pretty solid collection of Jason goodies plus all the films. I like Freddy, Halloween, thought Rob Zombie did a great remake of that. TCM...The Howling, Fright Night, Phantasm, 976-Evil, all the Evil-Deads..ummm Dawn of the dead, etc etc, Lucio Fulci... But really for me the older the better...Next to Joes and Marvel Comics, I love Universal Monsters to death! just posted a thread on that btw. Does anyone remember Tombs Of The Blind Dead? and I think it was Ship Of The Blind Dead?? Awesome movies..... Looking fwd to the new Wolf Man too!!! Oh and guys, Freddy, Jason, Myers, Leatherface..in a real showdown? I'm old school....Boris Karloff as Frankenstein would snap em all over his knee! |

I bought Phantasm like four years ago, it's just sitting of DVD shelf in it's plastic wrap collecting dust. If I watched it now, I'd probably laugh at it, but why destroy the illusion.

ZOMBIES, ZOMBIES, ZOMBIES!!!!!
Best horror movie EVER is: RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 3. If you have not seen it, this kid's GF dies and he brings her back to life with the military chemical that makes Zombies. Anyway, the rest of the movie she's trying not to eat his brains and she finds out that inflicting pain on herself is the only way to resist. By the end of the movie she has stabbed metal, glass, sharp objects, rocks etc through her entire body. It is Frigg'n AWESOME. There are other zombie encounters that are classic with characters like "Santos" and "The River Rat". You'd like it if you really dig Zombies. I give it a 10 out of 10!!!

Same here! Gave me the willies back when I saw it and still creeps me out now thanks to the cloying "something is definately wrong in this town" feeling it manages to convey. I was lucky enough to grow up in the pre-certification VHS era here in the UK, before the 'video nasty' scare blew up and castrated the horror film for two decades. My mum worked in a video rental shop and it was magic to go in and see all the gaudy boxes on display. From ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS (with it's "Strong Uncut Version" sticker) through the likes of CONTAMINATION, ALIEN TERROR, ANTHROPAPHAGUS... *sigh* They're all out on DVD now, totally uncut, but there was something about those big boxes, gory cover images and rotten graphic design that just can't be beaten. Also, the short-lived HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR television series scared the living sh!te out of me (the bad guys always won!!!!)

The older movies are still the best. They set moods and tones that were scary not just buckets of gore. The acting mad the difference..Boris Karloff's eyes, the intensity of his espression..just fantastic.
