Hey it's a Nerds box set!
Grabbed this at Walmart for under $20. So what does it come with? Revenge of the Nerds 1: Panty Raid Edition 1st off I sorta sick of these cute little names for Special Editon DVD's. It's a special edition DVD that's all you need to call it. I would also except Directors Cut, Extended Cut, Bonus Edition, Anniversary Edition (I hate that as well but will except it), or in some cases (T2) Ultimate Edition. Sorry needed to vent a bit. Okay disc one has nearly all the goodies, a hand full of deleted scenes including: - Stan Gable (the head Alpha Beta) getting a call from his nerd brother he owes money to.An okay scene that would have set up Stan introducing his brother and accepting his nerd brother at the end of the film, explaining Gables look of sadness during Gilberts 'I'm a nerd.' speach. Interesting subplot but ultimately unnecessary. -A nice scene where Gilbert explains to his girlfriend how important she is to him, and that he will be going away to the Lamda coneference in Las Vegas. This sets up two following scenes which is again part of an unecessary subplot, of the Nerds going to a Lamda, Lamda, Lamda national conference. -The Lamda Conference actually has some funny laughs as the nerds a dressed in African attire in a room full of Lamdas.Funny as it is this entire Conference idea distracts from the regular plot and it's easy to see why it was cut. The idea is later recycled for Revenge of the Nerds 2: Nerds in Paradise. -Gilberts Uncle, this is the last of the three conference scenes shot where Gilbert picks up his alotment check from his Uncle.Completely unnecessary scene has Gilberts Uncle flying off the handle that his nephew is calling his black Lamda frat bothers his brothers. The scene is very uncomfortable and treds on inappropriate. Certainly unnecessary, and does nothing to make you laugh, nor does it move the plot. -The Nerds are confronted by Gable, Burke, and Ogre outside the Nerd house after the Alpha Beta's have trashed it.Gable destroys Gilberts trophy, and pushes him down, but ultimately this is handled when Gilberts storms the Allumni rally. It was a double confrontation that again was simply not needed. -The Chariot race was another competition scene that would have followed the belching contest.Ultimately it's just not that interesting of a scene. We also get on disc 1, the original trailers for Nerds 1, and 2. Besides the full length feature, we also have feature commentary from, Timothy (Poindexter) Busfield, Robert (Lewis) Carridene, Curtis (Booger) Armstrong, and directer Jeff Kanew. It essentially sounds like no one wanted to make this movie at first, but had such a damn good time making it that it ended up being their favorite shoot ever. Lots of great stories, and apparently a good portion of the film was improvised on the spot. From things like Piondexter's fight with the blender, to Goodman's line (after the liquid heat Jock strap incident) 'Shit we forgot to practice.', to Booger fleecing Takashi at cards were all improvised. It seems from commentary that a good 60% of the film dialog or visual jokes were done on the fly, as last minute suggestions from cast or crew. Funny stuff. A loving look back at the film that essentially reafirms the commentary track, with interviews from the actors that played Piondexter, Booger, Wormser, Louis, Stan Gable, Betty Childs, and Lamar. Revenge of the Nerds: TV Pilot Oh lord. Apparently at some point someone decided that a TV show loosely....and I do mean loosely based on the movie was a good idea. Let me set the tempo....think Saved by the Bell meets Revenge of the Nerds. It was like that. Differant actors to play some of the key roles, the Nerds have been wittled down to: Louis Gilbert Wormser Booger, Badly played by Robbie Rist who played Cousin Oliver on the final season of the Brady bunch. The Alpha Betas include: A Stan Gable-eque character, but not Stan Gable. And Ogre Swenson, not the same Fredrick 'The Ogre' Polowatski from the film. Everyone here is a pale replacement of the original actors. The plot loosely is an adaptation of the first movie. The Nerds get there, The Alpha 'evict' them, they go to the Lamda (not UN Jefferson) and again get in under the by-laws of the frat, and are assigned an advisor PT Turner (who lives with them) they get a house, and bricks thrown through their windows. They challenge the Alpha's to a showdown at the school store/common area, where they use these devices that are supposed to stimulate muscles for exercise to cause the Alphas to lose all pyshical control of their bodies and they run away. It ends with PT Turner admitting them to the Lamda's and Booger uses his device to make the cheerleader pyramid fall on him. All in all so bad, you have to see it. And just one more slight thing that annoys me. This edition is called the panty raid edition, and as such has Louis on the cover holding a pair up as a trophy. Yet oddly they have the Lamda, Lamda, Lamda logo on them? What the hell? Lamda is a frat, no one should have panties? Well except for maybe Lamar, but if Louis is holding them triuphantly he has bigger issues that getting even with the jocks. The correct thing to have put on the panties would have been the Pi Delta Pi logo or the Omega Moo logo. Revenge of the Nerds 2: Nerds in Paradise Nothing, and I mean nothing new at all except the packaging. No Bonuses, no commentary, just the movie. I will mention the chalk outline on the hotel floor was a recycled joke used in the TV pilot. And the entire deleted story line from part 1 the conference is ressurected, retooled and used as the entire plot for part 2. Not the classic part 1 was, but enjoyable. Revenge of the Nerds 3: The Next Generation I do believe this is the first time this made for TV movie has ever been issued on DVD and with good reason. Clearly they were attempting to resurrect the idea of a TV series, (hey it worked with Friday the 13th, War of the Worlds, and Nightmare on St) with new and younger nerds, but this time some of the actors from the original movie were onboard as well. The basic story has an underqualified Stan Gable (the head Alpha Beta from part 1) taking over as Dean of a Nerds dominated Atoms College with the help of a sleeze AB allumni Orin Price. Meanwhile Lewis Skolnick has grown up and married his college sweetheart Betty Childs. He's also forsaken his Nerdness, and becomes friends with Stan, who is really using him. Booger also returns to defend the new Nerds in court. It all comes down to Lewis reclaiming his nerdness, and standing up for the younger nerds. Orin Price sets up Lewis saying he stole college funds (which of course he didn't). There's a trial, and some of the older Nerds return to support Lewis. His dad, Lamar, Takashi, and Wormser (which is not the same actor) and eventually Lewis's best friend Gilbert (again not the same actor). Eventually Stan does the right thing and reveals Orin Price's scheme, and announces that he has always admired Lewis and the Nerds, and that he too is a Nerd! Mostly bad stuff here this should have been the final nail in the coffin, but somehow..... Revenge of the Nerds 4: Nerds in Love The fact that one TV sequel failed miserably didn't stop they from making just one more flick. This time they have abandoned the new nerds angle partly, three new Nerds carry over into this flick from part three. (which might have worked if they stuck with it) and give us a story of Booger meeting the woman of his dreams the sadly under used Corinne Bohrer. Basic story, Booger's bride is from money, and her father and scheming other son in law attempt to break the wedding up. There's less here than the last movie, we have several turns on whether Booger does or doesn't have an illegitimate daughter. I'll save you the time, he doesn't, but he and his wife adopt the orphan girl bribed to say she is his daughter. There is also a rediculous subplot with Lewis and Betty having a baby, which of course she delivers during Boogers wedding to a Lion King-esq, "Behold the nerd child!" No joke on that one. We see the return of several other nerds, besides Lewis, Booger, and Betty. (I hate calling her a Nerd.) Takashi, Lamar, and Ogre. We also get the debut of Stan Gable as a nerd (belt calculator and a thick rimmed glasses and all) in a rediculous subplot where he has chicken pox, and sleeps with one of the newer nerds Judy. Not much here, except for the excellant cast trying to muddle through this aweful flick. We do get an alternative scene of the food fight (how sad is that there big end of the movie is a food fight, one in regular vison one in the incredibly bad 3D it was originally aired in.) All in all, I love part 1 and it had alot of cool info and extras. Part 2 was ok, 3 and 4 are simply along for the ride. Robert Carradine sums it up best in his commentary, "You make part one and it becomes a classic, then you make part two, and that tarnishes part one a bit, then you make two TV movies that....well just make it worse." |
