I think it could be good.
Afterall a good horror movie remake is hard to find as there can be a gem and there can be a dozen misfires only to tarnish the legacy of the original. Moviefone made this cool article last year on how to make a good horror remake with their own rules and advice to the filmmakers out there: The 10 Essential Rules to Making a Good Horror Remake - The Moviefone Blog Do you agree with the rules, worst culprits and best examples? On number 8 "Honor the original" they could had also added Cat People by Paul Schreider and Tom Savini's Night of the Living Dead as other 2 good examples of horror remakes that honored the original. I think Evil Dead will fall in number 8 and 3 with honoring the original and the suspense factor. The last 2 examples on rule 5 "Stay away from torture porn" make no sense as i agree with Sarah that the 1972 Last House on The Leftn and 1977 I Spit on Your Grave movies are originally torture porn flicks and they were marketed as shocking gory exploitation films. I also agree with her that if you look through the gore of the remakes you can find them to be decent. |

I have to wait till I get home cuz' this crappy computer freezes on almost every link lol.
Generally the horror business today suffers from the lack of original ideas. But, as Adam Gierasch said on his blog, there are cool scripts that are buried forever or at least for years if we are speaking about Hollywood. Talents often have to create only remakes (like Alexandre Aja), but there are certain movies which are decent ones, but still I'd say after a good remake, the next ten will be lame. The movie industry is battling over the brands like Hellraiser, then they finally try to get it done with some "cheap"-skilled writers. I know this sounds a bit rude, but there is a gap between TV-shows and feature films. A scripter, who works for mainly television, has different ideas about a full length movie, than someone who did this of his entire life. Oh and this CGI-based environment has its cons too. There will be always remakes and stuff, but there would be more and more fantastic flicks if it wasn't for the maximum profit. My advice is that stick with indie movies and read some reviews to know what can be good or that divide the critics. Btw. I love crappy moves, Troma and so on |
