That's Jenna-Louise Coleman, who the BBC has just confirmed as the Doctor's new companion. Coleman is expected to make her first appearance in the 2012 Christmas Special. There's also info below on the new scheduling and some Amy and Rory news... Just be warned that there are spoilers. That Figures: NEWS: BBC Announces New Doctor Who Companion, New Scheduling

No, that'll be Sarah Jane. You actually had to be there as a kid in the 1970's to appreciate her (which I was).
That new companion looks like your typically forgettable "21st century bland" starlet that people keep insisting is 'beautiful' but as soon as I click away from the page, I find I've forgotten what she looks like. Good job I stopped watching the show ages ago!

Oh, I've sampled the latest series. Not only do I not care for Smith's breathless performance, I just don't like the pretentious soap opera DR WHO has become, and the writers are trying so hard to be "epic" that they've become absurd & contrived. All that stuff with Pond's baby? Definately came across to me like the writer's were shouting "look at us, aren't we clever?"
They also fall into the trap common for modern televsion aimed at 'younger audiences': Everyone over 30 in a suit (especially if they're caucasian) is a villain, while the hero is always the 'outsider' (whether they're an outsider because of gender, race or sexual orientation). They're trying to be 'alternative' so often that their 'alternative' has become the norm. You just know the middle-aged white guy with a gun is going to either die first or be the hard-nosed establishment figure the Doctor has to beat. Then there was the show's disgraceful treatment of U.N.I.T. A beloved, benign institution is turned into a band of strutting thugs (or "stormtroopers", as a character called them) with only the unarmed personal being portrayed in a positive light (because remember kids, guns and fighting are 'bad'). Actually, anyone in the armed forces is usually shown to be a bully, a coward or a dumb drone and has to be slapped down by the pacifists. So there's my view. Unlike rabid ROC haters, I don't storm onto WHO forums demanding the show be cancelled or the writers killed (this is possibly the first time I've said much of this in public!) as I have 20 years of 'classic' DVD's to dip into and I'm content to leave the new show to it's fans with my blessings. I just won't watch. I do find it sad that even now I'm called an "anorak" for prefering the original show, and by adults no less. They're 'cool' for liking the new version whilst I'm 'sad' for liking the old. Never did understand that...

I'm with crimson Rage on this.
As an old b*stard who grew up on (and loved ) Tom Baker, i've got a fond spot for the old series. Plus by coincidence, his final regeneration scen was about 7 miles from my house. The last 2 or 3 series have had poor scripts. It's like a period time travelling drama and when they do go to alien worlds, not a lot happens with boring extra-terrestrials. Where are all the battles and cunning escapes from battle ready alien forces? it seems to me the big reveal sub plots are more important, with a weak episode plot written over them. Where are the Sea Devils!!!?? or at least a Raston Robot! I like Matt Smith, but if it wasn't for Amy pond i'd have given up long ago. This new companion looks like Selina Gomez or any other High school Musical clone, so i agree they're more interested in the teen audience. CR, i agree, as a kid i also had a thing for Sarah Jane in the 70's!
