Gonna see this. Cautiously optimistic. When Ridley Scott is on his game, dude is amazing. Alien and Blade Runner were awesome, so I hope this lives up to expectations. Can't help it, but my expectations for this movie are through the roof.
Also, whoever decided it would be good for Charlize Theron to do naked push ups should win a fucking Oscar. "Best Idea Ever in a Motion Picture Oscar," or the "4 Realz? Oscar." Note, I don't thinks she's actually doing naked push ups. I believe she is wearing some sort of white outfit or something. Last edited by pud333; 12-23-2011 at 06:24 PM.. |

I don't think this will be a retread of Alien. For one, supposedly the Xenomorphs don't even show up in the movie. Ridley Scott feels they've been overplayed and aren't scary anymore because they're too familiar. Kinda have to admit, when he mentions seeing the Alien on a ride at Disneyworld, he might have a point....
I kinda dig the mystery that's been built up around this though, and really outside of Avengers and Dark Knight Rises, this might be the film I'm looking forward to the most this summer. Yes, even above Retaliation. I hope this is like old school sci-fi, where it's a slow boil of a movie, building up to something shocking and incredible. I'm excited for Dark Knight Rises, but I am even more excited for this, if that was even possible. |

My serious interest in the ALIEN franchise begins and ends with that first film. Sure, I can watch (and enjoy) all of the other movies, but even as early as ALIENS, the creatures themselves had been reduced to knock-down cannon fodder and robbed of their power. The Marines get hammered because they were pretty useless, frankly. I found the film itself more sci-fi action than horror.
For tension, atmosphere & pure dread that original can not be beaten and I still regard it as a standalone film (so in my little world, Ripley lives happily ever after!). It's remained in my top 10 since I saw it and I've never seen that feel replicated in another film, ever - It was original, daring and a risk so they went all out. I don't honestly think PROMETHEUS will replicate that feel, simply because mainstream Hollywood still tends towards 'safe'. But, in Ridley Scott's hands I really do expect a film that comes pretty damn close... even the trailer spooked me so it seems I'm in for a treat.

Hmmmm... what? Sarcasm doesn't translate on the internet too well, so I'm not sure what you mean.

And he explicitly stated that he'd only return to the genre when presented with a good story and script. Scott doesn't have to slum it, so I presume he was happy with both when taking on PROMETHEUS.

Yeah I'm looking forward to this. From what I've heard the 'Space Jokey' will play a big role in the plot.
