I didn't really pay much attention to HP until Goblet of Fire... that one just pulled me into the series and I saw the rest opening day every time! Looking forward to a HP Blu-Ray weekend and watching 'em one after another.

I think they've already hinted at the uber-deluxe collector's special director's cut edition blu-ray set of all eight movies coming out later next year, so...
This is basically just a stunt to get people to panic into buying inferior editions who'll they'll then convince to double-dip for the "deluxe" version(s) later on. Then after that "deluxe" edition/set comes out, they'll just re-release it every 5-10 years/in whatever new format the same way Disney does with their stuff. |

At least with the HP movies we shouldn't have to worry about the director/producers releasing "fixed" versions every couple of years like Lucas does with Star Wars.

I started watching the first one but just couldn't get into it. I've heard they get better but it was just too childish for me.

The first 4 were pretty much made for kids, but damn... the last 2 or 3 were REALLY, REALLY dark and gloomy, almost to the point of being depressing even. So much so that it didn't even feel like a kid movie at all.

good thing i never intended to buy any of them in the first place since i don't care about them or the series as a whole.
Come to think of it this post is just as pointless as the piece of news that inititiated this discussion.

I've watched the series from the beginning, and it does a good job of "growing up" with its' characters and their fans. Yeah, getting through the first two especially can be a bit of a chore, but things start getting much more interesting starting with #3 and moving on from there, though I found #4 to be a bit of a "low point" for the series. Not terrible, just kinda "meh."
Overall though, it's a quality series, and undoubtedly in years to come is going to be one of those that people will buy "just to have" like they do with Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, and some of the other popular/acclaimed movie series. But none of that changes this being a silly marketing stunt by WB. |
