I think they were illustrating how much the characters have suffered. You know the cliche about how your life flashes before your eyes right before you die.
We see Laura losing her family, and then as we know she later got the cancer. We see Kara and Lee with Zak, and I'm assuming that when Lee got home drunk it was after Zak's death. In a way, it was like we saw Kara, Lee and Laura's last happy moment in life. Think about it. We also get more of a glimpse into Baltar's background and personality. It's also in a similar vein to what they've been showing in the last few eps: Adama grieving as he watches Galactica and Laura slip away from him, Tyrol thinking he had another chance with Boomer only to lose that, Helo and Athena losing Hera, Tigh losing his son, etc. This one just had more flashbacks. What's left to answer: Who is Virtual Six and Virtual Baltar (who hasn't shown up in forever)? What is Kara? Is she a Cylon? Is she from an alternate reality? Is she from the future or the past? What? What is the meaning of the visions in the Opera House? I'm guessing it is symbolic of the final chase to rescue Hera in the Cylon Colony. Will Tyrol find out that Tory murdered Cally? What is the significance of the music heard by the Final Five and now Hera and Kara are caught up in? There's enough time in the two hour last ep to resolve those questions, methinks. What other questions are there? That's just a superficial mental review.

Don't forget BATTLESTAR GALACTICA SERIES FINALE MARCH 20TH.
Some questions...and can 2 hours worth of TV time wrap all this up? 1. What the hell is Kara Thrace? After finding her crashed and burned corpse on the remains of Earth, Kara has been a veritable basket case. She’s not sure if she’s humor or a ghost or…well…what the hell else could she be? We still have no answers. 2. What does Caville hope to gain from Hera? Caville (the terrific Dean Stockwell) has kidnapped Helo and Athena’s half human, half Cylon daughter to try to understand the key to continuing the Cylon race now that the regeneration ship has been destroyed. How does he plan to do this? Is he going to dissect her? Is he going to try to clone her? What exactly is this sick bastard planning? Will anyone on the big mission to save Hera survive? Half of the ship is going, and half of the ship is staying. It’s a bold stroke by the creators of the show to script it this way. It pares down the characters into only the essentials, preserving the human legacy and risking all of the marbles for all of the central characters. They’re walking straight into a trap, and is there any way that any of them can survive this? What will become of Baltar? The thing about Baltar is that he’s always been such a weasel. Even from the very beginning, when he hid his involvement in the collapse of the colonial defense system, he’s been solely about himself. Will he step forward to help save Hera? In doing so, will he turn himself into some kind of religious martyr to his lunatic clan of people? Can they actually wrap up four seasons of questions in just two hours? The thing that worries me is that an unsatisfying conclusion can really hurt the legacy of a television show. When I look at HBO’s terrific Carnivale, I not only remember the beautiful cinematography and the compelling performance of Clancy Brown, I remember feeling let down by how it ended. The whole thing ended so fast, and they didn’t have a chance to answer any questions. Now, that show was cancelled, so it’s not the same as Galactica, but I am worried about whether or not they can actually do the show justice in just two hours. Hopefully, the ending will be as good as what’s led up to it. PS- is there a planet out there for the survivors to settle on, or has that arc been abandoned completely? |

I only started watching this show two episodes before last season's finale. That was the episode where Baltar was on trial and I was totally hooked and then the season ended and I was like, "what?" LOL.
That episodes a few episodes ago where the vice president tried to take over the ship was so awesome. It was like watching Crimson Tide in space; best episode of the few I've seen. Can't wait to watch tonight's series finale just because I like watching episodes where stuff actually happens (unlike the past few eps). I don't really know what's going on so I can't be disappointed however this series ends, but I bet Edward James Olmos doesn't die... like, ever. LOL. |
