They still haven't officially stated he died, but his plane crashed and the pilot was quoted being burned beyond recognition.
'Titanic' composer James Horner unaccounted for after plane crash 'Titanic' Composer's Plane Crashes in California, Killing Pilot - NBC News James Horner was most famous for the Titanic soundtrack, but he did many others like Aliens, Krull, Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Kahn and soooo many more... This sucks.

Crazy. I'm almost sure he would've been scoring the 3 Avatar sequels too. With the lead time Cameron gave him on the first one, he may have already been working on them.
La La Land Records just released his Searching for Bobby Fischer score last week. I just got it in the mail today. Other big ones he did...Braveheart, Cocoon, Commando, Willow, Land Before Time, Field of Dreams, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Glory, Rocketeer, American Tail, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Casper, Apollo 13, Jumanji, Mask of Zorro, Perfect Storm, Beautiful Mind, Apocalypto, Amazing Spider-Man. Titanic was the bestselling movie score album of all time. Seems like this is the biggest loss among film music composers since Jerry Goldsmith 11 years ago. Wiki: "Horner died while piloting his single-occupant plane on June 22, 2015, at the age of 61." And to think Harrison Ford almost met the same fate. And J.F.K. Jr. did meet the same fate. Be glad you have a less dangerous hobby. Last edited by JediJones; 06-23-2015 at 12:33 AM.. |

So many amazing soundtracks. Wrath of Khan is an all-time classic as far as I'm concerned.

He was also the conductor for Project X (1987), but is uncredited. It was similar in style to his *batteries not included score.

Always loved his music, especially Wrath of Kahn and Apollo 13. RIP

From reading movie score forums online in the '90s, it seems like the 3 most mentioned composers were John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner. He was definitely one of the biggest names in the biz. You can see he did a high volume of scores, and worked on enough mega-hits or cult favorites to make his name stand out often. It'd be hard to find anyone who's been a regular moviegoer at all since 1980 and never saw one of the films he scored.

Braveheart has to be my personal favorite but that is some carrier. Such a shame. He was a brilliant composer.

Man, a lot of these guys die (relatively) young. Poledouris and Horner were both only 61. Michael Kamen died in 2003 at age 55. What the heck? Goldsmith survived to 75, though. |
