I saw avatar two times. The 3D was kinda cool. but, each time, it took me about 20 minutes to adjust, and I felt like I had a headache when I left.
The 2nd time, the 3D glasses were dirty, and I had to exchange them a couple of times to get a clean pair. Then, they were all covered in the cleaning liquid that they clean the glasses in... Since then, I've gone to the 2D versions of Tron 2, Green Lantern and Cars 2. Thankfully, one of the 2 local movie places tend to play the 2D versions of the 3D movies... I plan to go see Transformers 3, but ONLY if they have the 2D version. 3D movies just don't interest me... Anyone else agree, or am I all alone?

The one movie I wanted to see as a kid in 3-D was JAWS 3-D. My brother refused to take me I was pissed. I ended up getting this on DVD from JAPAN w a 3-D converter yrs ago. But the 3-D today looks so phony compared to the old days.

I've never cared for 3D...3D if the past was very gimmicky...the end of a 2x4 pointed into a camera for no reason, or the blatent shot of a yoyo coming at you....all really stupid stuff.
Todays 3D hasn't impressed me much...its a hell of an improvement from 3D of the past and feels more...organic, but so far I've seen the following in 3D... -Avatar -Green Lantern -My Bloody Valentine -Resident Evil: Afterlife -Transformers 3 So far Avatar was decent, but it didn't impress me...sure if you want to see floating burning embers great, but I didn't feel 3D added anything to the film. Green Lantern was similar again I don't think its subtracted frin the film but it didn't really add anything either. Resident Evil 4...same thing Transformers 3 has likely been the best 3D I've seen because I think it actually helped the Transformers feel more real. My favorite though was My Bloody Valentine...mainly because it used 3D to enhance some already sick special effects, that honestly looked great in 2D already. And I think that is the key to 3D films, much like computer generated graphics when its used to enhance something already cool looking its brilliant...when its used in place of a decent plot or acting...its crap. Also again like computer generated effects the film needs something real to anchor it...Avatar was nearly a Pixar film it had so much animation in it, and the Star Wars prequels like 70% of the films are filmed on a green screen....its too much crazy as it sounds puppet Jabba the Hutt who was stationary and puppet Yoda who moved around on rods cut in the set were 1000 times better looking than moving Jabba and bouncing spinning Yoda. |

I like it when it's used well... like TF3. it really does give things a sense of epic scale in that movie. If I'm going to bother to see a movie in the theater for the 'big screen' deal might as well go all in for 3D and mini-IMAX. If it's not worth all that I might as well wait for red-box to get it. I'm not so sure this is just another fad that will go away any time soon. They've really mastered the tech this time around and moved beyond just pointing things at the camera. It's like it's become the next step in the evolution of the 'going-out-to-the-movies' experience.

I think its kind neat. It kept Green Lantern interesting. No headaches for me. My wife gets motion sick real easy so I was worried about her but she didn't have any issues with it either.
Smoke a fatty before you go in, it helps. The cool thing is you don't have to see a movie in 3D so I'm not sure what the complaint is about. |

As for Thor being in 3D... it brought nothing to the movie. IMHO totally unnecessary. |

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of 3D. It seems more kitch-novelty than necessary next step. I also worry about what it's doing to me - 3D forces your eyes to do 2 things at once - it bends to focus on the image coming at you but at the same time forcing itself to focus on the screen because that image isn't actually coming at you. That's what causes a lot of headaches. For the most part I don't get headaches, but if I watch a lot of 3D I do. Then I worry about what will happen if I watch too much.
I think it's fine once in a while, but I'm not going to watch everything in 3D, let alone buy a 3D tv for home viewing. Not to mention the price.
