I don't even really watch TV anymore. When I do, it's usually downloaded or DVD episodes, since the actual airtimes aren't always convenient. Besides, who wants to watch commercials or wait between episodes when you don't have to? Quote:

Shows are suffering from the effects of Lost and BSG which had these long drawn out...dare I say epic stories, but the thing with them being epic stories is that each week we still got GOOD episodes that progressed the story.
Caprica, and V both suffered from stories that simply did not move fast enough.

Oh yes. This is what I did with BSG. I have only Netflix and DVDs for the exact reasons you mentioned; patience and commercials. I won't even watch videos on the interweb if the video forces me to sit through a commercial before I can view it, and TV on the internet is crammed full of commercials you can't even fastforward through, like I used to do with the DVR. Sometimes the TV has been on the same timed out show on netflix for 2 days before I realie I haven't even looked at the TV in all that time.

Caprica....Cap suffered from dilly dallying and needless overcomplication. It COULD have been a pretty good story that build nicely to the first Cylon War, and maybe if season one had been the lead up to that war, with season two being the war Caprica would have been much better.
But they spent far to much time playing games with Sister Clarice and the religous terrorist organization investigation which generally never went anywhere, and it became way to complicated with all the stuff in V-World and the world within V-World New Cap City, which again never really went anywhere. I mean I loved the slow build and personally I liked Caprica as it was, but your making a TV show...in effect selling a product, you need to hook your audience...a slow complicated plot for two years is like being sleepy wile driving home with the windows closed, a lite station on and the heat cranked...your gonna fall asleep. Also and I blame Galactica here, who set the trend of MASSIVE wait time between seasons. BSG ended on March 20th 2009 possibly at its highest point of interest. Now a spin off and or a prequels series should have debuted during BSG's final season to carry over interest or soon after to keep that heat BSG generated going....but Caprica debuted January 22 2010. TEN MONTHS LATER......TEN DAMN MONTHS LATER. You can't leave fans with a ten month gap, people have short attention spans and people will (and did) forget. Shows are suffering from the effects of Lost and BSG which had these long drawn out...dare I say epic stories, but the thing with them being epic stories is that each week we still got GOOD episodes that progressed the story. Caprica, and V both suffered from stories that simply did not move fast enough. I mean Caprica was supposed to be about the Cylon uprising...and for the most part we saw very little Cylons the prototype which mostly sat around for the majority of the episodes it was in and Cyclons again in the last few episodes. V was about an alien invasion, except we never really got to a war with them...two seasons of a couple of characters playing cat and mouse with each other. Yeah things happened there was action but it never really got rolling. And there were so many dead ends to the stories...anyone remember John May Lives? Yeah that went nowhere quick. Red Rain...again what the hell was that about? We were told it was bad, but they never really find out what the hell it did, and to be honest this was something the characters SHOULD have been looking into to and discovering...but they never did. Sadly V finally was advancing plot in that last episode...Diana murderd by Anna, Lisa cloned and imprisoned where Diana was held, Tyler murdered by the Lisa clone, Decker exposed, rapture given to the human race with a few resisting, Ryan killed, and Erica being brought into the real organized resistance....all of these events SHOULD have taken place late in season 1 not 2, or at WORST when season 1 underperformed early in season 2 to generate interest. Sadly....you just took too damn long. V is a show that was supposed to last for five seasons when it was first announced. It gets axed after two because of a short season run and a slow developing story. A story that never fully explained the things that were revealed. Yeah I'm sort of pissed that The Event got the axe too. I would have liked for them to get deeper into the Sentinels vs. Aliens story line. I would have also like to get the explanation about what the differences were between the humans and the aliens. Since they said humans and themselves were different by 1%. How much of a difference does that 1% really mean? Last edited by Iron Guru; 05-17-2011 at 09:25 PM.. |

25 May, 1983 - 19 May, 1999. That's 16 years. Maybe you should just be glad it was only 10 months; especially given the quality of writing in the prequels. I've not seen Caprica, but I'm pretty sure it had an advantage of writting and time on it's side.
