Good call...for my money there is no better show of emotion than Luke spazzing out with the saber on Vader. That was just pure anger, hatred...he was giving in and with each time his saber came crashing down you felt it.
No finesse, no choreographed martial arts...just pure feeling. That might be the most "human" scene in any Star Wars film. I liked that scene too. But I thought jedi weren't allowed to use anger and hate. Use the force defensively not to attack. Jedi are like pacifist Shaolin monks. Calm and centered like Caine. Luke lost it! Lucas was never very consistent in his storytelling. |

Luke gave into the anger when Vader pulled the "sister" card. His anger allowed him to overpower Vader, much tot he delight of the Emperor. Luke, sensing he is going down the same path as his father, declares, "I am a Jedi, like my father before me." thus embracing the Force. OT is more consistant in it's storytelling than the PT.

i always figured luke's ability to tap into his anger yet not give in to the dark side was what made him the chosen one, the one that brought balance to the force. the emperor says 'take your weapon, strike me down, and your journey towards the dark side will be complete'. he does, yet he obviously does not go over to the dark side. luke- the ultimate badass in the star wars universe.

I thought Anakin was the chosen one. He killed the emperor, no? It has been suggested Luke is a new breed of jedi. He can take the best from the jedi and sith. Even though he used in his anger and hate in ep6, he didn't go down the the dark side. But he was never trained by a sith? Personally, I don't buy it. He calls himself a jedi. He trains jedi in the novels.

I still think it was Anakin that brought the balance. There were waaaaaaay too many jedi in the old republic. Anakin fulfilled the prophecy to bring balance to the force by knocking the jedi down to 2 (again not taking into account an EU survivors). By the end of the PT you have 2 Jedi and 2 Sith. there's your balance!!! the Jedi just didn't fully understand the prophecy.

There is still a dark side (and always will be) but the dark siders that come after Palpatine and Vader don't have the influence/power to affect the Force on such a large scale. Not that Lucas pays much attention to the EU, of course. Also, prophecy or not, the old Jedi order did need a massive shakeup. |
