The premiere episode was on HBO last night set during a medieval fantasy period. Share your thoughts on this series here. Kings,Castles,Warriors. At time of betrayal and bravery, is sure to follow.

Even better than I'd hoped/expected it to be. There were a few things and characters that didn't scream "like the book" to me in terms of appearance, but the excellent performances quickly wiped any of those concerns away. Only noticed (I think?) one "addition" that wasn't in the book and otherwise it seemed quite faithful so far.
The reviews that have come in from various media outlets have been overwhelmingly positive. It'd be awesome to see this show rack up a mess of Emmys come awards season time. My only concern is that people who haven't read the books might have a hard time keeping track of all the players (especially if the series goes into multiple seasons/books as is the plan), though thankfully HBO's got a nifty website to help with that. Rumor has it that HBO is so pleased with what they've seen of the series that they're reportedly going to announce/greenlight the second season today/Monday the 18th. |

On the other hand, if you've read the books, a lot of the characters that aren't specifically named and are lingering in the background are actually characters you recognize (plus it's easier to keep track of all the characters and how they interrelate). That and you can appreciate how faithful (so far) the adaptation is (not surprising when the author of the novel series is also one of the scriptwriters for the TV version). Though I noticed one minor additional scene that (I don't think) was in the book last night. Also, this site has plenty of good, non-spoilery information on the various families and locales (and the backstory of the setting to an extent). Just be rest assured that a lot of those "blank" spaces (as far as pictures/links go) will become VERY important as the series goes along, and it does show characters that won't show up until later episodes of this season. I'd say it's 50/50 on whether it's better to have read the books first or not. On one hand, the "big twists" (and there are many) will be genuine surprises for you, which is a big bonus. Buckle up because it will become a bumpy ride. If you're a TV Tropes fan: "it got worse" might well be the underlying theme of the entire series.

It had twin brother-sister love. I am completely sold! Now, I'm even contemplating on getting the books but for the fact that (i) I want to spend money on more toys; (ii) shelves are for toys not books; and (iii) the books don't have pictures. Books are what I had to pretend to want for Christmas as a kid, just so I won't get clothes and school supplies as gifts. Now, that I can afford to buy myself toys and whores, Fuck Books!

I'll have to give the books a second chance. I read Game of Thrones but couldn't get going on the 2nd, just didn't grab me.
I want to see this though.

Only thing better would be me in the scene sans her brother. |

I've read the first book and just started the second. My wife and I were watching and I spent some time explaining who some people were and what they were doing. I've told her to assume nothing where characters and plot lines are concerned. Everything changes at almost any moment.
Overall I am very impressed, although why they had to add an extra scene and then change Bran's scene in the Tower I don't understand. It also bothers me that they raised his age from innocent 8 to a more adventurous 10. I can't imagine HBO leaving off at the end of the first book as it leaves so much up in the air you just have to go to the next story.
