I guess I'm just tired of reading "if Nolan does it, it has to be great." The guy makes the first and only Batman movie without an ounce of tongue in cheek and that equals "greatness?" Making a better movie than Batman & Robin isn't all that high a bar to set. The first movie was good, but that owed more to Frank Miller than Nolan.

The older I get, the more I realize just how fucking great Pulp Fiction is. True Romance is pretty awesome too. I like Nolan as well. Overall quality of film? I'd say Nolan. More enjoyable films? For me, Tarantino.

Tough call, but I went with Tarantino.
The opening scene in Inglorious Basterds when the Nazi bastard is interrogating the French dude is just awesome. |

Of course I did. And if Heath Ledger had lived, not that many more people would have.
For a "realistic" setting, the Bat Pod sequence was absolutely ridiculous. Batman driving a physically impossible vehicle through a mall with people jumping for their lives, and that was after shooting fucking missles to move parked cars out of his way. Good thing no one was sleeping in their car. And what was the big plan to catch the Joker? Pretend Gordon was dead (just because he's a good truck driver I guess because he didn't do much else) and drive Dent through the city as bait. Then get attacked by the Joker, get several officers killed, endanger untold numbers of citizens to trick him into getting captured after almost killing Batman. Good plan. How'd that work out for ya Bats?

How'd that work out for ya Bats? Using Harvey Dent as bait was Harvey and Gordon's idea not Batman's. Batman was going to turn himself in when Harvey stepped up. They trusted Batman to go along with it and step in to catch The Joker. Gordon faked his death because he would have been targeted for assassination by the Joker and he wanted to protect his family. They had no idea when or where Joker would attack. That was up to the Joker, not Dent or Gordon or Batman. The city was already at the mercy of the Joker. They could do little to catch him other than to draw him out with bait. Batman was simply reacting to the Joker's attack and improvising on the spot. His batmobile got wrecked and had no choice but to use the batpod. He was taking shortcuts in order to catch up to the Joker. Again, it made for an exciting chase sequence and doing a direct chase down a street with no traffic or sense of danger would be pretty boring IMO. Edit: Also, I don't want to make it seem like Nolan can do no wrong, and that everyone should like his films. It's fine if he's not your cup of tea. But, I think he has done the best Batman movie to date, and it's not simply because he didn't make a goofy movie like the others. But, to each his own. Not everyone is going to enjoy every movie. To be quite honest, I think the Nolan Bat-films are overrated too. They're enjoyable, they're good - but I don't think they're the "ultimate" Batman films by any means. I don't think Batman has been done justice on the silver screen yet, in my opinion - unless you count Batman: TAS and its spin-offs... I don't think Quentin is overrated, however.

You're looking for "realism" from The Dark Knight? There are plenty of impossible things in Batman Begins and pretty much every single Batman movie ever made. What were you expecting? A completely "realistic" batman movie would be pretty boring if you ask me.
