I was surprised at how much I liked 'Goodfellas'-- I saw it for a film class, and hadn't thought it would be my kind of thing, but not only was it fantastic from a technical standpoint in terms of direction, I found it really enjoyable.
Younger me would probably be surprised at how much present!me loves Reservoir Dogs, since as a kid I had no stomach for blood and a general distaste for swearing. Now it's one of my favourite films! But yeah, the first time I saw it, there were scenes that were actually physically painful to watch. (Similar story with Fight Club, which I watched solely because MeatLoaf is in it, and wound up loving) I was on the fence as to whether or not I would wind up liking 'Shakespeare in Love'-- on the one hand, Shakespeare, on the other hand, 'in Love' implies the kind of romantic comedy I have no patience for. Then I found out it was written by Tom Stoppard, which is a fast-track to my heart when it comes to messing with Shakespeare. A couple kids' movies that I saw because I'm the oldest of three and therefore often wound up watching things aimed too young for me... I watched 'Spice World' because my younger sister was in the target demographic and really wanted it, and while it was by no means a great piece of filmmaking, the members of the cast who were not Spice Girls were almost all people I enjoy. Meat again, so... yeah, I don't remember much about the movie, but I didn't hate it, and I didn't hate the Josie and the Pussycats movie, so... *shrug* And Manos: The Hands of Fate. I actually really enjoyed that sack of irredeemable crap.

28 Day Later (never was a zombie fan until I saw this movie)
The Hangover (thought that I wouldn't find it very funny) Law Abiding Citizen(not that I thought I wouldn't like it, I just didn't think I would like it as much as I did) |

Tons
Conviction, was suprized how engaged I got into it, I am rarely a fan of crime dramas but I found this one to be rather compelling. The Blind Side-Never was a fan of sports movies either (besides Major League) but found myself really liking this, Sandra Bullock looked awesome in it as well which helped keep my attention. 27 Dresses-Romantic comedies-Feh-but I really liked this one. Priate Radio-Kind of thought it would be cliche but managed to be engaging somehow. Hotel for Dogs-Thought it was a sweet-sweet film Easy A-Teen comedies rarely do anything for me, but this one I found compelling and funny. Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Pussy Galore-was suprized how fun I found this film. Often quote it when talking to my dog now LOL. The Losers-Maybe not being fimlar with the comic helped here, but I thought it was fun, entertaining, over the top kind of guilty pleasure movie, after hearing it sucked so bad I wasn't especting that. |

One of my first dates with my gf was to see Social Network. Very skeptical, and was soon very pleased.
Stardust. I dont know how I had that movie. Think it was an ex's that got left here. I watched it for the hell of it one night and really enjoyed it. Nice Princess Bride-ish vibe there. Could have done without a gay Robert De Niro though. |

Cool thread...here are a few off the top of my head...
Holiday Inn K-Pax Winchester 73 Das Boot Amadeus (though this doesnt really count, I saw it in the 4th grade and fell in love with it) Rob Zombie's Halloween..the 1st one. I am a horror movie FANATIC and I keep it old school...from Universal Monsters to the late 70's...I was very skeptical about this movie but ended up absolutely loving it. Halloween 2 however made ROC look like Gone With The Wind. |
