I just want to say how much I looooove your brick creations! I've been enjoying this thread for a while, love the modifications made to some of the vehicles, they always improve upon the previous designs. Keep up the great work. Any hints on upcoming projects?

This imposing control tower dominates the small rugged airfield on Cobra Island. With its serpentine sculptures and thick sloped walls that effectively turn it into a sturdy bunker, the Control Tower represents the classic Cobra style of architecture.
Intelligence reports indicate that at least a dozen Cobra troops can be found in or around the tower at any given time. Any assault on this strong point would be a risky proposition and very costly in lives, unless the garrison could somehow be taken by surprise. But in the event of any attempt to take the airfield, occupying the Control Tower will be vital to success... OutSTANDING! As soon as I saw this I recognized it as the air tower. Working on a battle for cobra island set perhaps?

This is great! I love the cobra snake. The angled walls are so unconventional for a LEGO build and look amazing.

That might happen at some point - building a runway and three hangars would be easy enough to build very quite time consuming and very expensive. I have something else in the works though, that I think you'll appreciate...

Thank you for catching those details. This control tower was a sort of technology demonstrator/proof of concept for sloped walls.

Here it is, what I've been working on all summer. This is a Work In Progress of the Silent Castle.
gijoe.fandom.com/wiki/Silent_Castle There are several representations of the Silent Castle - this one is a combination of the one from the original Marvel G.I.Joe comics and the British Action Force comics. Silent Castle WIP by Magnus-L, on Flickr Rear, with helipad by Magnus-L, on Flickr Front wall removed by Magnus-L, on Flickr Ground floor and inner side stairwell by Magnus-L, on Flickr The Cobra Island Control Tower I built was more or less a proof of concept/ technology demonstrator type MOC to give me some sense how to pull off building walls at angles. Because of the complexity of this, this is much trickier to pull off, but I'm well on my way now! I haven't seen this technique done before, and while it is very possible that others have done similar things, I figured this all out on my own. When the Silent Castle is finished, it will be the largest non-modular MOC I've ever built - bigger in footprint, and much much taller than my Terror Drome. Most of the exterior walls are more or less done, but the interior will take lots of time and I'll also build a rocky outcrop for the whole thing to sit on. So I'm not sure if it will be finished this year, but we'll have to see. I've got a basic idea of some of what kind of details and rooms I want on the interior, but am very open to suggestions. Dang!!! This is awesome!! I've got so many thoughts....
First, how big is that thing? That is going to be one massive rocky outcrop. I can't wait to see it! I would say you have mastered the angled wall technique you came up with. They look like they've integrated together very well. Speaking of the walls, look at all that Dark Tan lego! I'm sure you are already planning some of your awesome Cobra Emblems (like you had on the control tower). As for internal rooms, I pulled out my old copy of Marvel's GI Joe #21 and took a little trip down memory lane. Here are a few things that came to mind: ---- Cobra Commander's Throne Room ---- Destro's computer room - Somehow integrating a chess set would be very cool ---- A storage/maintenance/landing area full of cobra claws ---- A prison/dungeon ---- A Dojo for Storm Shadow and the Red Ninjas Off Topic, but nice Les Paul. I've got the same style. Mine is a 1976 Gibson Les Paul Studio. What is yours? |

So the current footprint is approximately 20' deep and 30 wide. - that's the equivalent of 2 by 3 of the common green baseplates, and is almost 3 feet tall. When it sits on the rocky base and with a snake statue on top it will be over 4 feet too (any taller than that and I may not be able to reach the top when it is on a normal sized table). I had thought of all of your suggestions aside from the dojo - interesting... I definitely want to work in some secret passages in the floors and walls for ninjas to sneak around in... There will also be a fancy living space for CC or Destro, probably in the main tower. One thing that hasn't been determined yet is how much of the lowest floor to dedicate to combat vehicles - will the whole thing be one big garage, or will I have some living accomodation there too? I'll have to see what I can fit higher up in the castle wings. And the dungeons (including that domed thing will be lower down, in the rocky outcrop that I haven't built yet. Thanks for your interest! |
