I'm going to have to make some tough choices here directly. I'm not sure Kreo will even be coming back at this point. I had actually entertained the thought of applying at Hasbro for that Brick Builder position, but there are a number of problems with that.
1- They state they are looking for someone with a degree, and the other requirements they've listed all seem to be traits of a cubicle worker. (I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that) The problem with that is someone who is trained in a box, may have a hard time thinking outside of it. 2- Relocation: Okay at this point I've no business entertaining this much further, but I wanted to be thorough in relaying my thought processes. Relocating 6 hours away is probably not in the cards for me anytime soon. I would not want to leave my home here permanently in case things didn't work out. I would most likely need to rent a hotel room by the week and then probably come home only on weekends. My wife (although encouraging me to follow my dreams) is not fond of the idea of me being away for so long. 3- Now this is a big one. Kreo's bad name and Hasbro's inability to promote their own products! I lumped these two together because I feel these issues go hand in hand. I don't know what makes this company think that a reboot could suddenly reinvigorate their Kreo brand to the level of earning merchants' trust again? In my opinion, lack of any advertising is what killed Kreo before it ever got off the ground. Kreo was on many box stores' shelves for a long time with no one ostensibly knowing they were even there! The only reason I eventually found out about Kreo myself, was a chance encounter at TRU while shopping for my niece around xmas 2013. I believe this was already almost a full year since they had been released! Just think of what some Kreo comercials (on tv's Hub showing of Transformers, for example) could have done for sales! So no, unfortunately I believe that job is most likely a setup for failure. And trust me, it pains me to even think that way; but with their track record it looks like little else except: "Hey look, we got this new guy to come in and (re)design all these Kreo sets, but the stores still don't want them. Wait, so now you want us to waste money on tv ads? Uh, no. Oh hey, and by the way new guy? Yeah, you're fired." Hmmm, I wonder if this is how it went down with the old Associate Designer? (Actually, we now see that he probably moved over to Lego) No one really had any idea how bad the movie Battleship would bomb, but when those first sets came out around a similar price point to their superior competition (Lego); people most likely ended up just buying their old tried and true brand. The Cityville sets had actually shown a hint of promise...until they were opened and then people realized they had been duped into buying a "compatible" building blocks set without it even being minifig scale! I'm sure many parents were just running out in droves...to return those sets! I mean come on, you can't see where that is destined to fail? It's not like they didn't have a generous amount of builds available. Oxford is the actual company who produced them (for Hasbro), and have you seen some of their awesome sets? Even the eventual redesign of the Kreon figure was a step towards future failure. All the improvements in the design were from after they were released, not in pre-retail testing. This is not very encouraging of their processes, if they can not spot potential flaws prior to mass production. Case in point: the G1 Kreons' legs were too long to have it sit down correctly when putting them in one of their own seat pieces! So you're telling me that no one ever thought to put a Kreon in a seat before producing them? At this point even if Lego had been interested in producing sets for some of Hasbro's liscenced brands; the damage that has already been done by Kreo's first half-hearted attempt may be insurmountable. I do pray I am proven wrong, and that Kreo comes back with a vengeance though ;) |

Sounds to me like you're the man for the job!
Hope Kre-O does make a come back. I still want the Transformers Warriors that never showed up in the U.S.

So I've finally been able to pick up a copy of the Ultimate Soldier Apache AH64. As expected, with it also being made by Oxford; the Dark Olive Green is a match to the Kreo/Oxford Military lines
But man, this thing is huge! Look at the size difference compared to my Dragonfly! Last edited by stealthy slim; 11-30-2017 at 12:56 AM.. |

I'll have to pick up that Ultimate Soldier Apache AH64, wow! I'm glad your still going...I loved the Joe Kre-os and I think I have every single set and Kreon that Hasbro put out for the line. I even bought multiples...I don't have the time to build, so hopefully I can once my kids are a little older and leave the pieces alone when I'm trying to build. haha

Don't wish them too old too quick. Before you know it they will consider themselves too old for blocks; only tinkering with their real cars and chasing girls. :(

Hey gang! Aside from the many models on my shelving, I've had all my tubs of pieces in storage since the summer. I've just had to do some rearranging for some work being done at home, so it has prompted me to do some reorganization of my storage. I've brought down a few of the brick tubs, and am hoping to get some motivation to start more builds.

Okay, I've brought down all my brick totes and boxes from storage and have started on a couple little projects.
This first one will help to free-up some of those light olive green pieces. First Task completed: Turn Wolverine to Kreo Dark Green Well actually it's still kind of a work in progress, because I'm not happy with the light grey pieces on there yet. I'll probably try to refit those with either dark grey or black. Hey. at least it's got some tail lights now, huh? I also haven't taken the time to find and place the decals for it yet, but what do you guys think of it in this color so far? Last edited by stealthy slim; 11-30-2017 at 01:31 AM.. |

Still haven't taken the time to find decals yet, but here's what it looks like currently with some of the colors changed up a bit more.

So here's the Megabloks Gremlin I got recently to try to make a copy of Capecca's Havoc design. (I just had to include that Hummer in the shot too!)
Cross Country doesn't seem to fit right in the included seat, so I guess I'll probably not be using that in the Havoc build... These past few days I've had off work, but hopefully I will be able to free up more time to keep building. Already receiving negative feedback from my household though, for congesting my living room up with all my parts totes and boxes :( Please feel free to post comments, suggestions or questions; as the input definitely helps my motivation ;) Last edited by stealthy slim; 11-30-2017 at 01:44 AM.. |
