I finished updating my Cobra Hydrofoil. I had originally started this project many months ago in traditional Lego Red. Like all of my other models, I switched over to the newer darker colors.
Cobra Hydrofoil by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr I tried to keep all of the details that I loved about the original Hasbro toy, but I added some cool new features as well. top view by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr Obviously, it has the hidden missile rack. In this shot you can also see the search light. Missile Rack by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr Here is a closeup of the top turret. The yellow missiles are actually from a Built-to-Rule set from ages ago! gun turret by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr Improvement #1: The turret section comes out so that I can have better access to the drivers station. pilot seating by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr The chain locker access ports are functional. I closed off those wells tightly. I remember losing accessories down there in my youth and having to shake the vehicle vigorously to retrieve them… coming out of the chain locker by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr Here is a closeup of the right side. I added the ladders in the back to facilitate Eels coming back on board. Right side by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr Here is a closeup of the bak end. Much of the detail here is straight from the original. I did add a ladder to get troops up to the gun turret. Back end, far by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr I also added another access point to the chain locker rather than just having the gun smuggling plates in the floor like the original. Back end, locker open by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr Of course, the engine cover is removable, just like the original. Engine cover removed by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr The depth charges are loaded by lifting these flaps at the back end of the boat. Back end by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr The depth charges come out by lowering these flaps at the back of the boat. depth charge release flaps by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr flaps open by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr It wouldn't be a hydrofoil if it didn't have its foils. They tuck in under the boat very nicely. Bottom of boat by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr And they come out easily. Deploying the foils by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr They lock into place and support the weight of the ship. photo 2 copy by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr Here is another improvement. I created an attachment point to bring a night landing craft along for the ride! raft mounted by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr raft detached 1 by Laurance Hiller, on Flickr I hope you like my hydrofoil! Thanks for all the compliments, guys. There is one tiny flaw. The torpedo on the right side is all grey. The one on the left, unfortunately, has a black segment. I need to get one more "r2d2 body" in solid dark grey to finish this project.
