How to make your own Black HISS

I had this posted in the Customs thread, but wanted to repost this separate and add the lego parts list for everyone. That way with some pieces from a couple sets, and the mentioned lego pieces, you should be able to complete the conversion fairly easily.



I will tell you though, that if you wanted to keep this build strictly kreo, then it will take quite a few different sets in order to amass the right pieces to get it together.

If you are not opposed to mixing in lego pieces, then you would only need a couple kreo pieces from the Ghost Striker set, and TF Stealth BumbleBee. The other pieces that you would need, are available in lego.

I had started this venture by simply copying the kreo hiss tank build manual and looking at what all parts were dark blue. That gave me a good idea of the parts I would need to get in black. It's about 54 blue pieces, but there are more pieces that could be changed as well. You could end up needing close to 60 other pieces depending on what sets/pieces you already have. You basically have to tear down your blue hiss just about completely, in order for this to work. Just in case anything goes wrong, I have included a link to a pdf of the build manual included in this Black HISS.zip ;)



The ghoststriker has that base piece (k100954) in grey, as well as the four black 2x2 2/3 slope plates (k100229) that are on the top rear of that jet. (tf sideswipe also has four of those 2x2 slope plates)

Alternately, if you have used a firebat as parts for a custom moray (many thanks to cyko), then you may already have the grey base piece for under the hiss cockpit.

And lastly, using a little creative part swapping could free-up that base piece (k100954) as well. For instance, my serpent armor has a dark blue base now
I wanted to also note that I have not found this part in black yet, so it remains the sole "fly-in-the-ointment".

The Dojo itself, comes with 7 of the parts you would need already! Swap out the four 3x4 slope bricks (k100045) with the blue ones from your hiss. The other three pieces are 2x4 black tiles (k100527) (that the arashikage stickers are on) (available in lego)

Stealth Bumblebee is the set that has the most black kreo-exclusive pieces in general, and should be high on the priority list for making your hiss black. There are two 1x2 slopes (k100040), four 1x3 curved slopes (k100638), 4x2 wedge plates (k100648/k100649), and more pieces like (k100165)

Thunder Wave has the four 2 x2 65 slopes (k100896) and two 2 x 1 65 slopes (k101085). (both available in lego)

Sentinel Prime had the 1x4 black hinge plate with studs on top (k100135). (lego makes one, but kreo windscreens fit loosely to it)

Rotor Rage came with the two large wedge plates for the tank's canopy sides. They are 6x3 (k100665/k100666). These are available in lego, and they are shaped a little differently than their kreo counterparts, but if used with the kreo 4x2 wedge plates, they will cover over the difference when put together.

After all of this, you would still need to find some additional pieces to make it look completed. These bricks/plates you may already have from your sets; but if not, they are fairly easily found on bricklink or possibly shop.lego


I mentioned a Lego list. What follows are screenshots of my Bricklink Wanted List for my Black HISS conversion

This lists the pieces needed (close to 60) to replace the visible blue pieces. On each listing I have the quantities stated, and I list the lego part numbers in the comments boxes.

So by using this list for your parts, and/or some additional pieces from the ghost striker (and hopefully stealth bumblebee) sets; you should then be able to convert your Blue Hiss into Black! =)

Or get them in white, and make an Arctic HISS ;)

Thanks for posting the parts and tips. I got a few Ghoststriker sets to replace the red with black parts (can't beat $4.99!). I will probably make 3 tanks

That Arctic HISS is the bomb.
My normal HISS is a mix of black and grey with two blues towards the back. The bottom of the cockpit area I replaced K100954 with two pieces probably from the bottom of the Ghoststriker.

I did something similar by adding more dark blue and lack to my Cobra Armored Assault vehicle, and removing the dark red and some of the greys, for a more cohesive look. Too lazy to take a pic right now though. Might try to make other color variants of that model, aka Mine Stryker. Thinking about a white polar version, a dark grey version, a red version, maybe a black one, who knows, depending on part/color availability.

I put together my second black HISS last night, and found that I needed to adjust the parts list in the first post to remove a couple of the pieces that aren't visible after it's together anyway.

That just looks too good not to try! Is the Stealth Bumblebee set the one with the checkpoint? Those are at Big Lots now for $15-20.

You should just list everything including the 3x4 slopes from the dojo on the list, also at least one of your part numbers is incorrect. you list 2341 in the screenshot but on bricklink it's 2431.
