Krazy for Kreo

Not sure what everyone else's TRUs look like, but at mine, they've moved GIJoe, D&D, and Cityville KREO to a clearance endcap about 10' away from the construction toy section.
What was the KREO section still has the Transformers sets as well as a GIJoe mini-figure box. The rest of the aisle has been filled with other brand Lego knock-offs. That's the first big push I've seen to clear out the KREO section outside of the deep discount all the sets are currently priced at. The Terrordrome, while a great set, seems to be online only, which unfortunately does little to garner interest from holiday shoppers. Basically if you don't know it exists, you're not going to go looking for it. I really hope we see line continue, but I believe it will need to have some type of marketing thrown behind it if Hasbro hopes to have any success with the line. At it stands there will be little to no KREO presence this holiday season outside of Transformers which makes me nervous about any future sets being shown at Toyfair or Joecon. |

I think the most likely scenario is that Hasbro might be giving GI Joe a break and cancelling the D&D sets to "clear the air" before new pushes in 2016:
Given the continued push Hasbro is making with Transformers KreO sets (which are are seeing some freakishly AWESOME stuff this year, like historical minifigures), I still believe we'll see a KreO Joe push with any new initiatives they do that year (be it movie or a new series of some sort). Ending the retro stuff now would give TRU a year to clear the branding from shelves. D&D is screwed given the continued rights cockup the movies are sitting in, and with a Magic film in development at Fox, I think Hasbro might be positioning Magic as their "premiere" fantasy brand, so clearing D&D would prevent "competition" on shelves. But I'm not sure this is much Hasbro can do in "pushing KreO" if they can't get other retailers to carry the line to begin with.

Well Geewunner has said there should be a possible Hisstank set coming out soon that he got from a Hasbro source. So there's that....

I don't want this to sound like a bash Hasbro post, because 90% of the toys I buy are theirs so they must be doing something right. However, a trained poo flinging monkey could market their brands better than they do.
Joe Renegades toys did not hit the shelves until AFTER the cartoon was dead. I have yet to see Star Wars Rebels action figures even though the cartoon has been on for a few weeks now. The entire Kreo line has only seen TRU release with the exception of the first Transformers wave. Movie lines have characters with little to no screen time in the over-ordered first and second waves while central characters are sent to die in third and fourth waves (See Avengers, Retaliation, Transformers AoE, etc.) I could go on..... but the point is that Hasbro succeeds despite itself. I am hooked on these little guys. I hope Kreons live for years to come!

i'm ok with joe kre-o being a boutique line at tru only. i'm equally happy with the current release pattern. i'm fine with the line being small but continuous. despite poor and unequal distribution i've managed to get everything i want except for army builders from wave 1. i would be very happy if it kept up with limited annual sets and wave releases so long as it continues. i'd hate for it to simply end before we get the chance to get a lot more of the characters we want and possibly more core vehicles/sets. i don't need the line to be a big retail offering everywhere with all the sales pressure and success pressures entailed, just keep it active and keep it new vs. rehashes and repaints seen in 25th line. it wouldn't hurt to have small squad packs of army builders.

I dunno. I sure hope it continues, for at least a couple waves at least. We've got a pretty good roster so far, hopefully they can continue it.
Either way, I hope we get a few more exclusives from the Club, too.

I have to wonder, with the clearance of everything at TRU, if Hasbro is done with Kre-o sets (although they ran a similar sale last year, and still produced new sets). I have to say, if that is the case, with the arrival of my Terrordrome, I can't complain. Nearly every iconic and/or essential character was captured in Kre-o likeness. Still, we can always wish for more. If Hasbro were to release one more 12 figure wave, what would your perfect wave consist of?

My perfect wave (6 joes, 5 Cobras and 1 adventure team) would be:
1. Spirit - they would probably have to give him baroness's hair 2. Shipwreck - I already made one using Cutter, but for those who don't want to customize, I'm guessing a white stocking hat would get the closest to his white sailor's hat. 3. Falcon - this one would be easy 4. Breaker - if a headset isn't feasible, I'd live with a Wilkie talkie or a green/black variation of Dial-Tone's backpack. 5. Cover Girl - use the action man hair I'd guess 6. Rip-Cord - he'd end up wearing a gas mask, but I'd be ok with that. 7. Action Man - whichever one they choose 8. Buzzer - with no ponytail, they could use the cityville mad scientist hair in blonde, then hook a bat chainsaw hand to the barrel of a gun using a circle block as a connector 9. HISS Driver - easy 10. Zandar - again, easy 11. Wild Weasel - the helmet and goggles that came with the cobra trooper in the Wild Bill set would be perfect. 12. Croc Master - have they made a city-vile crocodile?

The latest vehicle set, Firebat and Wolverine were looking to be an improvement from the first wave vehicles in the way that their color schemes were more consistent throughout the vehicle. It looks as if the Joe KRE-O line was getting some nice vehicles updates. Hope this continues.
