I know I've heard collectors and fans say LEGO won't make GI Joe sets because it's to violent and it's military theme.
But LEGO has no problem throwing out more and more Star Wars Clone War sets. I was watching a Clone War Episode where Commander Rex was talking about how Commander Krell was sending his troops on a "suicide mission" and how Commander Krell has got more troops killed in battle and Commander Krell has the highest fatality rates. Back the truck up LEGO. You mean this type of dialogue is acceptable and you have no problem making more SW Clone War sets when the characters talk about "suicide missions", troops being killed and high fatality rates. Wow, last time I watched a G.I. Joe sunbow episode Duke never talked about any random Joe soliders being killed. So if LEGO is okay with making sets out of this violent show, why won't they make G.I. Joe sets? Or does LEGO not want to make toys that have a pro US military theme? IMO G.I. Joe is "Good vs Evil" Not USA vs evil |

And as soon as you make the sets, let's get a Lego game for the consoles. Seeing hiss tanks and rattlers bust into so many bricks would be great ! That and those classic wordless cut scenes in the Lego Joe universe would be hysterical !

GI Joe is owned by Hasbro, which is in direct competition with Lego, which is why the Transformers: Kreo sets came out.
We'll get Joe Kreo sets for sure. |

Also, G.I. Joe has none of the mainstream penetration of, say, Harry Potter.

I don't think its violence or international politics. As others note, its corporate brand competition and the fact that G.I. Joe is pretty off the radar compared to Clone Wars, Harry Potter, Toy Story, PotC...

The other is that Hasbro wants to keep this sort of thing in-house. They tried with Built-to-Rule, and are trying again with Kre-O. If Kre-O is a success, no doubt we'll see GI Joe stuff. It's too bad though - even if Kre-O does take out, it will never match LEGO in terms of sheer pop culture awesomeness. GI Joe Kre-O will never be as cool as GI Joe LEGO would be. I for one still hope for GI Joe Minimates. Seeing them outsource the 12" line to Sideshow gives me some hope of this sort of thing happening. I also wouldn't mind seeing Combat Heroes return.

I saw some official Army licensed Lego-esque toys at a drug store where I work. They looked like pretty cool toys - tanks, jeeps, etc. Would work great for someone looking to make some custom Lego Joe figs

I remember as a kid telling my friend how awesome Joe Legos would be, specifically a Lego Havoc. He responded, "All the figures would look stupid with that bump on their head."
I maintain that a Lego Havoc would cure herpes and bring about world peace. |
