The United States Army Special Forces is the proper name for the Green Berets so maybe he was one. It's just as prominent to his character like it is Falcon's. Also, I have browsed Google images and have noticed that the United States Army Special Forces symbol is on red & black berets which begs the question of how did Special Forces get to be colloquially known as the green berets.






Maybe most of the SF personnel wear green berets and that is how they got the name Green Berets.

Also, Stalker wears a green beret even though he wasn't part of Special Forces. So, it sounds like Hasbro and/or the Army plays fast and loose with the beret colors.

Maybe they both do. Stalker is US Ranger and from what I see some Rangers do wear greenish berets. It's mostly a light green.

Personally I would like to see realistic stories, battles, and characters with sci-fi technology. Also, they should do what Simon Furman did with IDW's transformers: take some of the weird aspects of the franchise and (instead of throwing them out) explain them. For example the address the whole "Ninja" situation. Instead of snake eyes being a full fledged Joe, make him an outside contractor. Now he can be a ninja, dress however he wants to, and go rogue whenever he needs get around the red tape. Apply this principle to every weird thing in the franchises. You want cobra la? have good explanation. if Scarlett wears yellow, explain it. This is the way to keep long time fans happy, but also make the new comics palatable for new fans.
