I hope you guys can do that Funky Bunch! I finished the trade and really enjoyed it, although as one might imagine the ending did seem a little rushed (but I'm grateful they gave Allor at least a chance to close things up).

It looks like Paul Allor fairly active on here and engaged with the fans. I also thought it was neat that he was so excited about the book and that it had a personal connection to him.

I'd love to hear what his plans or at least thoughts were for the future. The back of the trade has some interesting bios on the Joes and Cobras; It might just be me, but I read the Baroness's bio as taking a lot from her Battle Action Force origin (which I love, and prefer to any since then, especially ones where her given name is conveniently "deCobray". I've grown a little wearing of Snake-Eyes in ARAH, but he seemed to be setting SE up for something too, and that intrigued me.

I'm tempted to try and figure out Allor's run on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; that's a property I've never really been into, but it's been a long time since I actively looked forward to finding 15 minutes where I could squirrel away and read an issue of Joe like I did with Allor.

This was a title I skipped because of the initial pitch but then later started giving a chance due to several strong recommendations on the forums. I did buy the first issue originally.

Ultimately it was very good. I liked the setting and really liked the Joes as rebels against an already successful Cobra. This isn't the first time we've seen that but it is usually a good formula.

I had some initial difficulties with seeing some of our mainstays as civilians instead of soldiers. My Roadblock can gun down a dozen Vipers before washing himself off to make chow; the Allor Roadblock was a nice, normal civilian who just about cried when he killed a man the first time.

Were there race swapped characters? I can't remember any. Maybe there was a race-swapped Flint or Falcon? There was a guy like that I just remember as a new character.

The Tiger character was a just normal kid who had to become a guerilla fighter slowly. The recurring training scenes with Scarlett were solid for this purpose.

I felt like one story arc went somewhere dumb at one point and then the plotline reestablished itself pretty quickly and well. Also we left the core team at least once and delved into a new point-of-view which was nice.

And yeah, good take on Bludd. I can't remember the details but I remember liking it. Worth a reread.

The art dissuaded me from picking-up this series.

Evenhuis's art? I think I know what you mean. This comic was on the shelves when I started collecting Joe again, and the covers and quick glimpses inside didn't do anything for me.

In reading it this time though, I have to say I loved the art. The muted colors really fit the story, as does some of the minimalism of the pencils. There are also some really interesting panels and layouts. I wish I could be more articulate in my praise, but for example issue 3 I think has the Joes jumping off a bridge, cut into three or four panels, and I'd almost want it as wall art. Issue 7, which deals with PTSD has some really powerful, startling panels that made me believe the character was hearing gunshots as he took out the trash or whatever.

I really liked the Bombstrike issue, and the Emma Vieceli art wasn't-my-thing-but-fine, but I thought it was jarring to have a style so different from all the previous issues.

EDIT: putting the correct name for the main artist!

You can bracket an images url with: [img][/img]

Yeah, that art-style seems better suited for Jem and the Holograms.

If Allor and Evenhuis do Jem and the holograms, I’ll subscribe and buy each of the 12 covers IDW puts out. Issue 7 (shown), was a really good one too.

Tks for showing me how to post real pics also.

These are some good reviews of a few of Allor's comics. Also, I know art is subjective and I won't convince AWOL to like it, but the pastel "Jem and the Holograms" panel above actually works really well with the story. For those of you have served or who loved ones who have served, issue #7 really does a good job of showing the toll that can take (and IMO, the Jem-and-the-Holograms art really helps).

Moreover, I prefer the special-mission-type stories. It's all about the escapism.
