Yes, I was happy when Trimpe returned. When he drew newer characters, it somehow legitimized them for me. Anything drawn by Wildman towards the end... uggghhh.

I completely agree that it's a ridiculous name, and you're probably right that it was found on AOL in 1999. And yet... (here's the part I should be ashamed of) I'm fine with it.

It's likely that he would have gone to Japan at some point, where Kamakura stuck to him. Had Hama originated it and not Blaylock, he would have made a funny backstory about it. Like the city of Kamakura is where Sean Collins got so badly drunk that no one would let him ever forget it, or something like that.

Zap, Breaker, Snow Job, Snake-Eyes... these are all goofy codenames, we've just come to embrace them along the way so they don't sound goofy to our ears anymore. Of course, most kids thought that Snake-Eyes referred to some kind of reptile characteristic and not bad luck, until an older grown up pointed it out. And then there's poor Stalker, which I can't believe Hasbro hasn't replaced with Stomper yet.

Why replace stalkers codname? Cause hes black? Fuck that. Stalker is a bad ass soldier who STALKED his enemies in nam ( or whatever war he might be updated with these days ) so the codename fits. Its time to ignore pcism and just enjoy the figs.
