Recently I revisited Fury: My War Gone By which was written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Goran Parlov, and it is a comic book miniseries about the military background of Nick Fury and his service record. The book begins with Nick Fury's time in the Korean War then transitions to his tenure in Vietnam where he meats the Punisher and ends with the Gulf War. It explores what Fury did during those conflicts that earned him his reputation in the US National Security apparatus. I was just curious would you be for a few GI Joe comic book miniseries that are written in a similar vein as Fury: My War Gone By? Personally, I would love a book like that, because it would be a nice break from the Joe vs COBRA war and flesh out the backstories of a lot of the Joes. I think the first character that should get that treatment is General Colton, GI Joe himself then we can have a Hawk, Duke, and Flint miniseries after GI Joe. Obviously, I wouldn't want Ennis to write, I think his writing style is too extreme for GI Joe, but maybe have someone like Paul Jenkins write the comic books.

Sounds interesting to me. I can't remember but was that done for a few of the characters in the Hearts and Minds series?

Maybe, I'm not familiar with that series. Now that I learned it was written by Max Brooks, I may have to check it out. I know Hama had an arc that delved into Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow's service history and Threat Matrix dove into Duke and Mad Monk's history together in the military.

Yes, absolutely, as long as I can recognize the character personalities. This would be the ideal comic about GiJoe to me.

Sounds cool. I've been re-reading Nth Man (by Larry Hama) and forgot how much the lead (and his ninja mentor) resemble G.I. Joe. And being 1989, pre-internet, there was a huge attention to detail on Soviet & Chinese weapons and vehicles.

Yeah. Obviously, that would be the key part is having the characters have their iconic personalities. I think it would be cool to see GI Joe himself on tour and get to the origin of how he earned his purple heart. Then we can have a series where Staff Sergent Conrad Hauser meats Warrant Officer Dashiel Fairborne in the US Military before either of them join GI Joe and explore what prompted Duke to recruit Flint.

It's the third in a series, apparently.

Really? I knew that Garth Ennis and Derrick Robertson wrote the first Fury miniseries for Max Comics in 2001. I was unaware of there being a miniseries in between. Hm. Comic Vine seems to only two Fury miniseries on the market. Then it could be wrong because it has a Wikipedia-like format to it.
