That and WB wanting to cram 6 movies worth of story telling into one film to rush to a Justice League film. Still, the call to go for Frank Miller's Batman instead of Denny O'Neill's Batman was 100% Snyder's call. If I were in charge I would've only given Snyder the reigns to Justice League given that his version of Justice League was a pretty solid film and given the solo films to other directors.

This is just me, but Snyder would be better-off adapting one those Nick Fury and/or Punisher series' from Max Comics.

He wouldn't be a bad choice for those properties, they do play too many of his strengths as a director. I think the guy works best with ensemble titles to tell massive epics. I'm not sure solo Nick Fury or Punisher would allow him to tell a large-scale epic.
